Black Research Showcase

Are you a Black student at UT with research interests? Would you like the opportunity to attend an affirming and uplifting space in which you could share your research, receive feedback, and practice your public speaking? If this describes you, BHSA invites you to participate in our Black Research Showcase on April 22 at 2 PM in the Gordon White Building. The showcase is an affirming and uplifting space for all undergraduate Black students to present their academic endeavors.

Explore Law | Summer 2022 Application Still Open

This summer’s Explore Law are still open. Explore Law’s goal is to increase the numbers of high-priority undergraduate students from the University of Texas at Austin, Huston-Tillotson University, and Austin Community College who apply to and are accepted into law school. Over the last seven years, we’ve had over one hundred students complete the program, and over 95% of them are presently on a path to and through law school.

 

The cornerstone of the program is the four-week summer program. This summer the program will run 18 July to 12 August. Participants who complete the program earn a stipend of $1,500.00. We are currently planning to meet in person.

Become an International Orientation Volunteer!

The International Orientation Volunteer (IOV) program is accepting applications from graduate and undergraduate students until Wednesday, April 13, 2022. We invite UT students with an international interest to learn more by joining our info session Friday, April 8 at noon.

As an International Orientation Volunteer (IOV), you have the opportunity to help student adjust to UT, Austin, and the US in a variety of ways:

  • Design and lead creative tours of campus or Austin
  • Assist at social events
  • Lead virtual information session or participate in a virtual panel
  • Spotlight international students and orientation events on social media

We are accepting applications from graduate and undergraduate students until Wednesday, April 13, 2022. Explore the IOV website to learn about the program and apply.

McNair Scholars | 2022-23 Application Still Open

The application for McNair Scholars is still open. McNair, part of the U.S. Department of Education’s funded TRIO programs, guides first-generation and low-income and/or underrepresented students into Ph.D. programs, and provides funding to assist with that process.  

Applications are now due Friday, 15 April11:59P Central, but interested students are encouraged to submit as soon as possible. The Longhorn Center for Academic Equity will begin the review and interview process on a rolling basis.

Office of Distinguished and Postgraduate Scholarships

Truman Scholarship Information Session

April 06, 2022 at 5pm (Zoom)

This competitive scholarship provides $30,000 towards a public service-related graduate degree to students who aspire to work in a public service career.  The Truman foundation broadly defines public service to include employment in government, public-interest organizations, nongovernmental research, academic institutions, and nonprofit organizations.  Juniors graduating during the 2023-24 academic year are eligible to apply.  Register here 

 

Schwarzman Scholarship Information Session

April 11, 2022 at 2pm (in-person and Zoom)

The Schwarzman Scholarship funds a one-year masters degree in global affairs from the Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. Seniors and alumni are eligible to apply. Come hear from a Schwarzman representative and a UT alumni Schwarzman scholar. Register here

 

UK and Ireland Scholarships Information Session

April 12, 2022 at 5pm (Zoom)

The session will provide an overview of the prestigious scholarships for graduate study at institutions in the United Kingdom and Ireland such as the Rhodes, Marshall, Gates Cambridge, and Mitchell.  Seniors and alumni are eligible to apply for these awards. Register here 

PD Soros Fellowship for New Americans Information Session

April 20, 2022 at 11am (Zoom)

This award is for immigrants and children of immigrants who are pursuing any type of fulltime professional or graduate school in the United States. The scholarship is open to seniors or recent graduates in any academic discipline. Come learn more from a PD Soros representative. Register here

The Semester in Los Angeles (UTLA) and UT in New York (UTNY) programs will be holding multiple information sessions in the month of April for students interested in participating in either program during the Spring 2023 semester and beyond.

The deadline to apply for the Spring 2023 semester (for both programs) is on May 1, 2022.

Arabic Summer Institute 2022 – Deadline Approaching

The Arabic Flagship Program and the Department of Middle Eastern Studies at The University of Texas at Austin are proud to offer the Arabic Summer Institute (ASI), providing an intensive language and culture program for beginning, intermediate, and advanced students of Arabic.
