Dr. Christopher T. King is a senior research scientist at The University of Texas at Austin’s Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs’ Ray Marshall Center, which he directed from 1991 to 2014. He has been conducting research and writing on workforce, education, and social policies for over four decades. In 2012, he was selected as one of twenty leaders in the Aspen Institute’s inaugural class of 2-generation Ascend Fellows. In 2008-2009, he co-led a team that designed and implemented CareerAdvance®, Tulsa’s award-winning 2-generation program, and has been rigorously evaluating the program since 2011 with colleagues at Northwestern, NYU, and Columbia. He initiated and co-chairs Austin’s 2-Generation Advisory Committee fostering a systems approach to combating multigenerational poverty in Central Texas, is a member of the Anne E. Casey Foundation’s Two-Generation Strategic Evidence-Building Advisory Group, is a consultant to Connecticut’s multi-site 2-Generation Initiative, and leads the evaluation of the Innovate+Educate/National Association of Workforce Boards 2-Generation Initiative for the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Prior to joining the Center, Dr. King was assistant professor of economics at the University of Utah (1973-1976), an economist with the U.S. Secretary of Labor (1976-1980), and director of research and evaluation for job training programs in the Texas Governor’s Office (1983-1985). He has a BA in economics from The University of Texas at Austin and both an MA and a Ph.D. in economics from Michigan State University.
