St. David’s HealthCare (SDH) is launching a new nurse externship program for bachelor of nursing candidates interested in staying in the Austin area after graduation.
The program is a work study model offering students flexibility during their coursework and an opportunity to get more hands on learning on a unit. Interested nursing students will be hired as a PRN in the program and placed at one of the six hospitals. The program is designed to assist employees, who are nursing students, to obtain, advance, and increase basic skills needed to work in the clinical setting while attending school in an accredited nursing program. This role will enhance their time management skills, integrate service excellence as well as work intimately with our registered nurses to obtain a realistic perspective of our culture and work environment.
The Nurse Externship Program ensures that the employee’s work and school schedules are flexible and complement each other. Junior and/or senior nursing students are encouraged to apply for a position after completing their first semester nursing courses, which includes skills courses to be validated by the school.
The Nurse Externship Program is an excellent bridge to embrace the culture of SDH and transition from nursing student into the role of Graduate Nurse (GN) with increased confidence and competence. Visit careers.stdavids.com to apply for the position under job code 05057. Please note the position is not yet posted. This post will be updated with the application link in the next few weeks.
