The University of Kansas Health System is proud to offer a paid 8-to-10-week nursing externship program in summer 2024. In the program, nursing students will develop clinical confidence and patient care skills as they work alongside our proficient nurses.

Eligibility criteria
- Graduating from an accredited nursing program in winter 2024 or spring/summer 2025
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
- Completion of a clinical experience in an accredited nursing program
- Out-of-state students are encouraged to apply.
About the program
- Externs will work full-time (36 hours per week), matching the schedule of their assigned preceptor.
- Scheduled shifts could include weekends.
- Externs are encouraged to identify and work in selected interest areas.
- High-performing externs will have an opportunity to interview for open nursing positions with The University of Kansas Health System upon completion of the externship.

- Benefits are not included with this position.
- An opportunity for housing at a subsidized rate will be available for candidates from outside the Kansas City area, with most housing costs paid for by the health system.
