Recent UTeach Music Grad Receives Award for Continuing Education

Photo of Jackson Hocott teaching the cello
Jackson Hocott completed his teacher certification in May and received a $500 award from UTeach Fine Arts toward continuing education. He attended an intensive week of registered teacher training focused on teaching the double bass using Suzuki Methodology. This course addressed details of beginning instruction for children as young as 3 years old and addressed fundamentals of technique for students in the beginning stages of instruction. The connection of beginning and advanced technique was a focus of instruction with intensive examination of beginning repertoire and the importance of sequenced instruction in the beginning stages of skill development.
Jackson is completing his MM in Music and Human Learning from the Butler School of Music and is now the Orchestra Director at Martin Middle School in Austin.
