UTeach Fine Arts Mission Statement

UTeach Fine Arts seeks to preserve and expand arts education for all students by preparing preservice teachers for careers as arts educators. Our graduates are prepared to deliver high quality fine arts experiences in music, visual art, dance, and theatre in Texas schools, and to advocate on behalf of the arts for all students. UTeach Fine Arts aims to recruit a diverse pool of teacher candidates from across the state and beyond in order to reflect the student population inherent in Texas schools and communities where our graduates are certified to teach. UTeach Fine Arts today builds on the College of Fine Arts’ longstanding strength in, and national reputation for, arts education and teacher training, a vital part of the College’s curriculum and faculty since its inception in 1938. We intend for our graduates to move forward as culturally responsive arts educators whose primary goal is to guide the next generation of artists and performers toward finding their own voices and sharing the arts with others.
