While attending the American Alliance for Theatre & Education Conference, Roxanne Schroeder-Arce was recognized in AATE’s Distinguished Award Ceremony. Roxanne and her co-writers María F. Rocha and Héctor Martínez Morales accepted a 2022 AATE Distinguished Play Award for their musical Yana Wana’s Legend of the Bluebonnet.

Current UTeach Theatre Students Present at the AATE Conference with Faculty
July 28-31, 2022, multiple UTeach Theatre students and faculty traveled to Providence, Rhode Island for the American Alliance for Theatre & Education National Conference, Arriba el Telón (Raise the Curtain). Presentations by UTeach Theatre students and faculty included:
- “Activating Identity: Unlocking Latinx Voices in Secondary Theatre Programs” by session chair Michael Ávila (Assistant Professor of Instruction, UTeach Theatre) with fellow presenters and UTeach Theatre students Carmen Martinez, Angelo Bianchi, Trinity Gordon, and Davina Silva.
- “Devising Theatre for the Very Young: A Hands-On Approach” by session chair Sara Simons (Assistant Professor of Instruction and Program Head, UTeach Theatre)

UTeach Music Professor Justin West Publishes New Article
In Spring 2022, Justin West Ph.D. published a new article titled “(Re)building the Secondary School Choir Program: An Organizational Perspective” in the International Journal of Research in Choral Singing. Read his full article HERE.
He also co-edited a February 2022 special issue of the International Journal for Research in Education titled “Global Perspectives on Teacher Professional Development: Navigating the Pandemic.” They had contributions from distinguished teacher-learning scholars in five parts of the world: the U.S., Scotland, Uruguay, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, and Hong Kong.
