Mexican American Youth and Arts Education
“Representation Matters is a multi-pronged project which seeks to offer a model of positive identity development of Latinx youth through the arts.” – Roxanne Schroeder-Arce, Associate Dean of Fine Arts Education (UTeach Fine Arts)
Young artists from across Texas will be represented, including performers and visual artists from AISD and Del Valle ISD. Additionally, workshops and performances will be presented by UT Austin faculty, staff and students, and partner community organizations.
Events will be held within the College of Fine Arts at the University of Texas at Austin, the AISD Performing Arts Center, and Teatro Vivo at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center.
This symposium is funded by the Alba Ortiz and James Yates Endowment in the Center for Mexican American Studies with support from the UTeach Fine Arts program, the College of Fine Arts, the Department of Theatre and Dance, Latino Studies, LLILAS Benson, the Austin Independent School District, the Indigenous Cultures Institute, and many others.
