Leland’s paper “Mid-infrared epsilon-near-zero modes in ultra-thin phononic films” published in Applied Physics Letters. This work demonstrates coupling between mid-IR light and leaky modes in phononic materials at the LO phonon energy. Leland also demonstrates that such structures can be used as highly selective emitters in the mid-IR. The work was a collaboration with our colleagues at Notre Dame (Hoffman group) and UMass Lowell (Podolskiy Group). Congrats to Leland on his first (of many) first author paper!
