Past in Process

Past in Process is a peer-reviewed historical studies journal led by undergraduates at the University of Texas at Austin. Past in Process is not the traditional undergraduate research journal. Our focus is on making undergraduate research more accessible via our journal and accompanying online platform, Past in Posts. We take submissions of any length focused on historical studies. This includes content written for classes, thesis work, or independent study. History majors and students majoring outside of History are encouraged to submit work. We particularly encourage women and persons of color to submit and welcome submissions across different periods and regions. Our staff consists of a multicultural group of undergraduate students working across various disciplines. We are committed to fostering diverse voices that are not always heard in historical studies.

We are looking for undergraduate staff to be a part of our second official year as part of the university. Students of all backgrounds are welcome to apply to our many positions, listed below. Students interested in learning more about each position and applying should visit our openings page on PastinProcess.org.

Minority Women Pursuing Law

Since our founding in 2003, Minority Women Pursuing Law (MWPL) has aimed to unite and motivate all undergraduate students, although our key focus remains on minority women who are interested in law, justice, and obtaining a law degree.

Our organization desires to help prepare members for upcoming admissions processes and the kinds of experiences to expect during and after law school.  The creation of long-lasting networks of minority women like these will only benefit everybody at each step of their law journey.  Through law school tours, engagements, LSAT workshops, socials, volunteering, and personal mentorship, we hope to give as much law foundation as possible to our hopeful members.

There are no requirements to join!  You do not need to be well-versed with law technicalities and you do not have to be studying a law-related field to be a member!  We aim for our events to be as in-person as possible, but we will work with all COVID-19 guidelines the university and our collaborators set.

Interested?  Of course, you are.  Our information sessions are starting up soon, with our first coming up on August 31st! We’ll answer any questions you would like to shoot our way, along with getting to know you and your goals!

Queer & Trans Student Alliance

The Queer & Trans Student Alliance is an agency of Student Government that exists to foster advocacy, equity, and inclusion within the LGBTQIA+ community at UT. Beyond advocacy, we aim to create a welcoming space for any LGBTQIA+ identifying individuals to create a community through various initiatives and social events. In addition to hosting major events for queer students at UT, such as the Queer & Trans Conference, we also hold two socials a semester for lgbtqia+ folks, as well as weekly meetings.

Ways to get involved
· In addition to our major events and socials that we have every semester, we also have weekly meetings, in RLP 0.106 on Wednesdays from 6-7 (starting September 8th). Masks will be required in meetings! These meetings are a space for all lgbtqia+ to work on qtsa initiatives while also fostering a social space with one another! Most meetings will have food!
· Become an officer! While it is not required to be an officer whatsoever, it’s a great way to get more involved! Everyone is welcome to apply! Our application can be found at tinyurl.com/applyQTSA
