Ion transport in flexible membranes
Congratulations to Yechan! His work on ion transport through flexible two-dimensional membranes just appeared in Nanoscale. This work demonstrates that dynamic coupling between ions and fluctuating membrane is important and ion transport can be enhanced due to microscopic fluctuations in the membrane.

Congratulations to Pikee! She will be joining the Materials Engineering Faculty @ IISC Bengaluru as an Assistant Professor in August 2023!
Inducing Electric Current in Graphene Using Ionic Flow
Congratulations to Anshul! His collaborative work with Prof. Feng’s group on inducing electronic current in graphene exploiting dynamic ion/electron interactions that occur at the liquid/graphene interface just appeared in Nano Letters!
Congratulations, Chenxing!
Fluids and Electrolytes under confinement in Single-Digit Nanopores
Check out the comprehensive review on nanofluidics! This review is a good starting point for anyone wanting to get into the area of nanofluidics. The article also summarizes the state-of-the-art, identifies knowledge gaps and provides an outlook for the future challenges and opportunities!
Graph Neural Networks for Water Phase Identification
Congratulations to Alireza and Hananeh! Their work on using convolutional graph neural networks to identify water phases in bulk, at an interface, and in confinement just appeared in the Journal of Physical Chemistry C.
Strain-Induced Restructuring of Lipid Bilayers
Congratulations to Mohan! His collaborative work with Prof. van der Zande and Prof. Leal’s groups on multiscale compression-induced restructuring of stacked lipid bilayers just appeared in PLoS ONE.
Quantum Water Desalination!
Congratulations to Archith! His work on quantum water desalination – where protons transport via quantum dominated phenomena (such as transport via interstitials, tunneling, etc.) and hydroxide ions transport via nanopores and the transported protons and hydroxide ions recombine to form water – just appeared in the Journal of Applied Physics. Quantum water desalination, when combined with the usual water desalination processes (e.g. reverse osmosis), can significantly enhance water transport through membranes!
