AYWE 2026 Audition Submission Form

AYWE 2026 Audition Packets

Overview

The Austin Youth Wind Ensemble will be returning to Bates Recital Hall this upcoming Spring 2026! This ensemble is designed to be an honor band that rehearses on weekend afternoons, with two concert cycles in the season. Auditions for membership will be conducted via video submission based on the performance requirements outlined within the audition packets.

Participation Eligibility

The Austin Youth Wind Ensemble is open for woodwind, brass, percussion student instrumentalists currently enrolled as 9th-12th graders* in the greater Austin area. Performers must be enrolled in their school’s band program to participate. Attendance is mandatory, though scheduling conflicts may be discussed with Dr. Lebrias via email: mikelebrias@utexas.edu

*Students in 7th or 8th grade will be considered with recommendation by their band director and/ or their private lessons instructor (as of 11/3/25). Please e-mail Dr. Lebrias to recommend your student!

Upon selection, each member will be assessed a $150 participation fee, which will cover sectional instructors, a commemorative T-shirt, sheet music purchasing & rental, as well as other associated expenses.

Video Audition Requirements

Audition requirements are outlined in the audition packets for each individual instrument, located in the BOX link above. Instruments with special doublings (ex. Flute/ Piccolo, Oboe/ English Horn, Clarinet/ Eb Clarinet, Bassoon/ Contrabassoon, etc.) will have specific information about how to audition for those parts in their respective packets.

Video Audition Procedure

AYWE auditions will be open from Monday, November 3rd, 2025 thru Friday, December 5th, 2025. Audition results will be emailed out to auditionees on Monday, December 8th, 2025.

  • Performers will submit a video recording of the audition requirements outlined above
  • To avoid submitting multiple videos, performers can stitch multiple videos into one video for submission.
  • Performers will upload their audition video onto YouTube as “UNLISTED” and submit the link on the AYWE Audition Submission Form, which can be found linked on the AYWE webpage:

The Austin Youth Wind Ensemble will perform twice throughout the Spring 2026 semester, rehearsal dates are listed below:

Concert Cycle 1:

  • Sunday, January 11th, 2026 • 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM
  • Sunday, January 18th, 2026 • 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM
  • Sunday, January 25th, 2026 • 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM
  • Sunday, February 1st, 2026 • 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM (Sectionals)
  • Saturday, February 7th, 2026 • 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM
  • PERFORMANCE: Sunday, February 8th, 2026 • 2:00 PM

Concert Cycle 2:

  • Sunday, March 22nd, 2026 • 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM
  • Sunday, March 29th, 2026 • 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM
  • Saturday, April 4th, 2026 • 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM
  • Sunday, April 12th, 2026 • 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM
  • Sunday, April 19th, 2026 • 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM
  • PERFORMANCE: Sunday, April 26th, 2026 • 2:00 PM

All rehearsals will take place at the University of Texas Butler School of Music in the Band Hall, 2.114, and performances will take place in Bates Recital Hall at the University of Texas Butler School of Music.
