Camille Schneider Reflects on UT Studying Abroad in Greece

“Studying abroad in Greece has given me the opportunity to explore the connections between exercise, sports, health, and wellness while experiencing the country’s rich history and culture firsthand. Throughout our program in Thessaloniki, Meteora, Zakynthos, Delphi, Olympia, and Athens, we will compare Greek and American perspectives on health and physical activity while immersing ourselves in Greek traditions and history. Some of our experiences so far have included hiking Mt. Olympus (home of the twelve Greek gods), learning traditional Greek dances, and visiting the Thessaloniki Archaeological Museum.
At the museum, we explored ancient artifacts and ruins discovered throughout Greece, including golden wreaths, city gates, jewelry, mosaics, statues, and kraters depicting Greek gods and mythological figures. Highlights included a krater featuring Dionysus and Ariadne, a shrine of Demeter, a statue of Aphrodite, and a statue of Atlas. Visiting the museum brought Greek mythology and history to life and gave me a deeper appreciation for the culture that continues to influence the world today.”
