Steps
If you are a currently enrolled College of Fine Arts undergraduate, please follow these steps to be awarded your degree.
1. Review your Degree Audit.
Does a degree audit including your current courses show an “Estimated Time to Degree” of 100%? Are any minors or certificates you are completing included on the audit? If so, you are ready to apply to graduate.
If credit by exam is missing from your record, you’ll need to claim that credit prior to submitting your graduation application. If you are concurrently enrolled, you’ll need to provide proof of enrollment—a screenshot will do—within the application. Be mindful of the submission dates listed in the deadlines section below.
Please contact your academic advisor if you have any questions or concerns about your audit.
2. Complete the Graduation Application.
In Absentia
If you are not currently enrolled at UT Austin but have completed (or will soon complete) your remaining degree requirements, please reach out to cofadegrees@austin.utexas.edu to request to graduate In Absentia. You will receive a form to complete and brief instructions in reply. Please also review the deadlines section below.
Deadlines
October 28th: Last day to apply to graduate for the Fall semester. After that, please reach out to cofadegrees@austin.utexas.edu to inquire about a late application.
December 4th: Last day to take a final exam for a University Extension course to ensure that final grade will arrive in time for to certify your degree for the current semester.
December 17th: Transcripts from other institutions must be received by the Office of Admissions. (See the Transfer-Domestic section of Submitting Your Transcripts here.)
Graduating with Honors
To be eligible to graduate with University Honors, a College of Fine Arts undergraduate must have completed at least 60 semester hours in residence at The University of Texas at Austin and must have no outstanding delay of grade (symbol X). Graduation with University honors is based on the average of all grades earned in courses taken in residence at the University, whether the courses were passed, failed, or repeated. Courses taken pass/fail are counted in the 60-hour minimum, but only letter grades (including Fs in pass/fail courses) are used to determine the grade point average.
The grade point averages established for May graduates are applied to the following August and December classes to determine honors, high honors, and highest honors.
Honors Rank: top 20%
High Honors Rank: top 10%
Highest Honors Rank: top 4%
Commencement
Though optional, participation in Fine Arts Commencement is highly encouraged. Please see our commencement website for details.
Diplomas
Degrees are formally awarded once all grades for the semester have been submitted. Once your degree completion has been certified, your degree will be added to your transcript and your diploma mailed to your permanent address. Please visit the Degrees and Diplomas site for additional information.
