- Article I
- NAME
- 1.1 The official name of this organization shall be Student Association of the School of Information of the University of Texas at Austin. This Association is the successor of Graduate Library and Information Science Students Association (GLISSA), itself the successor of Graduate Students of Library Science (GSLS) [at the University of Texas at Austin].
- Article II
- PURPOSES
- 2.1 The purpose of the Association shall be:
- To advance the interests of the student body of the School of Information with its administrative counterpart.
- To foster community and cooperation within the School of Information student body.
- To provide support for the professional and educational interests of its members.
- Article III
- MEMBERSHIP
- 3.1 All students enrolled in a program in the School of Information, including certification and endorsement programs, shall be considered full members.
- Article IV
- OFFICERS AND EXECUTIVE BOARD
- 4.1 The elected officers shall form a Council of four members: four (4) co-directors with one being designated as the financial director.
- 4.2 The election of officers shall be held in April of each year, or immediately upon the vacancy of any office.
- 4.3 The term of office for each elected officer shall be from May of the election year to the following May.
- 4.4 An elected officer may be re-elected for a second term of office.
- 4.5 The Council shall have the power to carry on any regular business of the Student Association between meetings. All questions of policy or financial matters involving sums greater than fifty dollars ($50.00) must be presented at a regular meeting of the Student Association before final action is taken.
- 4.6 Addition: A past officer shall be allowed to serve in an advisory capacity to the current directors if circumstances allow. This position shall be known as the Past Officer position.
- Article VI
- DUTIES OF THE OFFICERS
- 6.1 The following tasks will be divided among Council officers at the beginning of their term according to their personal strengths and schedule commitments.
- Shall preside at all regular and special meetings of the Association and Council.
- Shall act as a liaison with the Dean and faculty members of the School of Information.
- Shall attend the regular meetings of the Senate of College Councils, meetings with the Provost, meetings with the President of the University, and meetings with the Dean of the School of Information.
- Shall keep the faculty advisor informed of the Association activities.
- Shall appoint committees where necessary.
- Shall assist each other in the execution of duties.
- Shall temporarily assume (until filled by special election) the duties of fellow officers upon vacancy of either office.
- Shall give committee facilitators guidance with activities.
- Shall monitor compliance with University institutional rules relating to student organizations.
- Shall record the minutes of each regular and special meeting.
- Shall carry on necessary correspondence.
- Shall submit a copy of the duly adopted constitution and list of officers to the Dean of Students.
- Shall be responsible for the maintenance and prompt transfer of permanent records to the succeeding Council of the Student Association of the School of Information.
- 6.2 The Financial Director shall have charge of all receipts and disbursements related to the Association; shall make reports at regular or special meetings on the financial status of the Association; shall deposit funds with the Student Organization Bank.
- Article VII
- MEETINGS
- 7.1 Meetings shall be held each month at times and dates to be specified by the Council.
- 7.2 Special meetings may be called by the Council.
- 7.3 Due notice of the time and place of each meeting as well as the purpose of special meetings shall be given to all Student Association of the School of Information members via the public posting of pertinent information via the Association email list, Web page(s), and other appropriate means at least three (3) calendar days prior to such meeting.
- Article VIII
- AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION
- 8.1 Proposed amendments to this constitution may be submitted by any active member of Student Association of the School of Information to the Council and shall be decided by voting members of the Association.
- 8.2 The Council shall make prominent notice of any proposed constitutional amendments.
- 8.3 An amendment to this constitution will become effective when approved by two-thirds of those voting. By-laws shall be approved or amended by a simple majority vote.
- 8.4 This constitution shall be reaffirmed or revised once a school year (fall to spring term).

- By-Laws
- 1. Student Association of the School of Information records. Records of all Association activities shall be kept in the Association’s active files for a period of three (3) years, at which time they shall be retired to the Association’s archives.
