Student Groups
iSchoolers run a number of student groups, and we encourage all students to get involved! In addition to the groups listed below, there are more than 1,000 registered student organizations at the University of Texas.
American Library Association/Texas Library Association (ALA/TLA): Goals for the ALA/TLA student chapter include bringing together iSchool students interested in academic, public, and school libraries; providing programming on topics of interest and use in various library settings; and promoting participation in ALA and TLA. Our regularly scheduled activities include monthly meetings, as well as educational and social events throughout the semester. Contact UT ALA/TLA at alatlastudent@gmail.com, and follow them on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/alatla.
Society of American Archivists (SAA): The Society of American Archivists Student Chapter is an organization of iSchool students. Our mission, as outlined by the national organization, is to introduce and integrate new archivists into the profession, provide additional focus for students to discuss archival issues, and promote archival interests within the University, academic departments, and the public at large. Throughout the academic year, we invite guest speakers, arrange archival education events, and organize trips to area repositories as a way of expanding our education beyond the classroom. Contact UT SAA at saautx@gmail.com, and follow them on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/saautx.
iSchool Pride: iSchool Pride works within the School of Information to advocate for and foster a more inclusive environment for iSchool students as well as promote LGBTQIA+ events and resources among the iSchool community. We organize and promote training for students and staff, host film screenings, social events, and more. You can keep up with iSchool Pride by joining our listserv: ischool-pride-ut.
