Undergraduate Research Assistants

Andres Fierro Lopez

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Andres Nicolas Fierro Lopez is a Senior in Mechanical Engineering in the Computational Nuclear Energy group. He is working on the computational frameworks for a digital twin fo the Molten Salt Research Reactor. Andres Fierro recently presented research as the ANS 2023 winter conference in DC. He currently serves as President of American Nuclear Society and in his free time enjoys long walks.

Trevor Van Husen

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Trevor is a Sophomore, Mechanical Engineering major. He is a member of the team working with MIT to model and irradiated salt loop.

Alex Aghinitei

Undergraduate Research Assistant

As a sophomore pursuing Chemical Engineering and concurrently delving into computer programming, Alex is actively engaged in the MIT MSR project. Within this project, Alex is focused on analyzing gamma ray spectroscopy graphs related to MIT’s irradiated molten salt loop. He aims to merge engineering expertise with programming skills to drive impactful contributions to the pioneering MIT MSR project, advancing nuclear research.

Austin Skiba

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Austin Skiba is a Sophomore Radiation Physics student at UT Austin, who plans to graduate in December 2025. He joined the Computational Nuclear Energy group in the fall of 2023 and plans to help with high fidelity physics modeling used in the creation of a digital twin with the Molten Salt Reactor currently being constructed at Abilene Christian University.

Chinonso Obiefule

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Chinonso is a first year physics major. He enjoys studying particle physics and will be studying how nuclear physics can be used to improve the high-fidelity model of the TRIGA reactor. Outside physics he enjoys ballroom dancing, songwriting, and creative writing.
