Spotlight: Bryan Akahara

Bryan Akahara

My name is Naahanna Bryan Akahara and I am a fourth-year Biology major. I am an intern at HCMP and joined the club to further solidify my desire to pursue a career in medicine.

Describe a shadowing experience that has impacted you the most:

One of my most memorable experiences since joining HCMP was shadowing Dr. Goldberg, an orthopedic physician. Before joining HCMP, I was opportune to shadow some emergency physicians and loved my time there. I was convinced that emergency medicine was the right part for me; however, Dr. Goldberg gave me a lot to think about after shadowing him. His character was quite illuminating, and the pace of the job was very similar to emergency medicine. He was kind and patient and ensured to answer all my questions.

How has HCMP benefited your professional or individual goals?

HCMP has also provided me with a network of friends with similar goals and aspirations as myself.

What has been your favorite aspect of HCMP?

My favorite aspect of HCMP has been the social events. When we go camping or eat out, we learn more about each and this allows us to form friendships.

What do you like to do in your free time?

In my free time I love to play soccer I also love to sing and dedicate a lot of my free time to the African a Capella group, Voices of Afrika.
