Describe a shadowing experience that has impacted you the most:

Out of the many rewarding shadowing experiences, my EMS ride along has exposed me to a side of medicine that happens daily. I was able to see medicine outside the hospital setting, exposed to the on-site events of urgent medicine and thus got to see the setting from where patients come from, their backstory and what led them to need emergency care. The patience, compassion and care the EMTs gave to each patient, regardless of the situation, inspired me. I also had the chance to observe a whole CPR procedure during a cardiac arrest incident. I was amazed at the composure of the EMTs who were very methodical, calm and efficient throughout the whole process. Being exposed to the EMTs work showed me the multi-dimensional aspect of medicine that does not limit itself to solely treating a disease but rather a patient as a whole.

How has HCMP benefited your professional or individual goals?

Joining HCMP has helped me grow tremendously and has been truly eye-opening for me in discovering various parts of medicine. I want to become a well-rounded physician that is able to have a wide understanding of all the issues and problems in medicine. HCMP has been able to show me all the factors that influence healthcare and the different leaders within it, whether it’s clinical, non-clinical or outside the hospital.

What has been your favorite aspect of HCMP?

Apart from the amazing shadowing experiences, HCMP has also helped me grow through the people within the organization. Each person in HCMP has their unique set of qualities and experiences that has helped me improve and change my perspective in aspects of medicine.
