Isra Ahmed

Hi, my name is Isra. I’m a junior neuroscience major at UT and an intern this semester at HCMP. I am also a behavior therapist for children with autism.

Describe a shadowing experience that has impacted you the most:

Shadowing at the Pediatric ICU with Dr. Dalleyfield has impacted me the most. During this rotation, we saw many traumas come in, some of which were non-accidental childhood traumas. I saw how the entire team of doctors along with social workers advocated for this patient and made me realize that medicine is more than just prescribing medication or performing surgery. It’s also about being an advocate for your patient during their most vulnerable time.

How has HCMP benefited your professional or individual goals?

Being part of HCMP, I am granted the opportunity to get a head start in a fast-paced medical environment which in a fast-paced medical environment which already puts me forward in the application process for top med-schools.

What has been your favorite aspect of HCMP?

My favorite aspect of HCMP is the close-knit community I have formed with people who have the same goal as I do; providing healthcare.

What do you like to do in your free time?

In my free time, I like to swim, read and socialize!
