Spotlight: Westley Pollard

My name is Westley Pollard and I am a sophomore Biochemistry major. I am an intern with HCMP, and am also involved in Health Science Scholars, Terry Scholars, and the Finnell Lab.

Describe a shadowing experience that has impacted you the most:

One of the shadowing experiences that impacted me the most was actually one of my virtual shadowing experiences. I always thought that doctors worked these crazy hours and had no free time to spend with family, but one of the doctors took the time to describe their day to day lives and shared what they like to do outside of the hospital. This, in a way, put my mind at ease.

How has HCMP benefited your professional or individual goals?

I’ve already finished the first draft of my personal statement for medical school applications. I’m sure I’ll rewrite it in the future, but it’s nice to know what direction I’ll be taking to write this very important paper. Additionally, I feel that I know way more about the medical school admissions process than I did before.

What has been your favorite aspect of HCMP?

My favorite aspect of HCMP is getting to know people with the same goal as you. Everyone is always so willing to share tips and advice, and I find that to be very refreshing.

What do you like to do in your free time?

During my free time, I enjoy jogging, playing PS5, cooking/baking, teaching myself to play the piano, and taking care of my plants.
