R – Axis Spider
Rigaku R-Axis Spider is equipped with a Cu sealed tube source with a large, image plate detector. This instrument is very versatile. It can be used for powder diffraction on loose powders and thin films and also for single crystal data collection. It uses a point focus Cu source with the SHINE curved graphite monochromator. It produces an X-ray beam ~0.5 mm in diameter. A diffraction pattern can be obtained in a short time using a fraction of the sample needed on a conventional powder diffractometer. Thin film data can also be acquired in a short time. Because a large, curved image plate detector is used, a very wide 2θ range can be analyzed in a short time. Because no post diffraction optics are employed, peak broadening can be an issue. Standards are available to correct for instrumental broadening.
