Frequently Asked Questions

No! We do not require any fees to participate in College of Fine Arts Outreach programming. Some groups will complement their visit with other activities and engagements around campus such as visits to a museum or seeing a show, and those typically require payment. Occasionally, groups visiting campus may decide to pay for their parking if they’ve brought cars in addition to or rather than buses. If you anticipate needing to park in a garage, please reach out to cofaoutreach@austin.utexas.edu and we can provide you with additional information.

We are happy to connect with groups at any point in the year! Generally, our recommendation is to schedule programming for your group sometime in the fall prior to December 1 if your group is primarily made up of seniors. This is because we cover a lot of information that is relevant to our December 1 application deadline. If your group is primarily made up of freshmen, sophomores, and/or juniors, we generally recommend the spring, as we have found that is a good time for students to begin exploring. This is not a requirement by any means, just a recommendation.

Due to ongoing construction and limited parking spaces on campus, there are no on campus areas to park a bus. Typically, groups traveling by bus will wait off campus in a nearby grocery store parking lot. For groups traveling by van, there are certain times where we can facilitate on campus parking for vans depending on other events happening around campus. If you plan to arrive via van, please reach out to cofaoutreach@austin.utexas.edu with your preferred date OR notate in your request form that you will be bringing a van, and we will see what options are available for you. For groups traveling by car, there are several garage options available on campus that charge by the hour. We love when we can complement a visit with additional engagement opportunities for visiting groups! These kinds of activities are based on the scheduling and program needs of each department and are subject to availability. We are always happy to explore options but cannot guarantee availability.

Absolutely! We are always happy to adjust to accommodate the needs of your group.

What students see depends on which tour we facilitate for your group. When we receive a request, we align the requesting groups discipline with the programs and departments housed within the College of Fine Arts and determine the most relevant and appropriate tour from there. All of our tours highlight the unique academic spaces within each of our Fine Arts buildings, including studios, labs, performance spaces, recital halls, rehearsal and practice rooms, technology focused centers, makerspaces and more. If there is a specific type of space you’d like your group to see, please let us know in your request form and we are happy to factor that into your request.

We are more than happy to explore options for visiting schools, organizations, and events outside of the Austin area. Our team travels often throughout the academic year to regional events, and we occasionally have opportunities to extend travel in order to connect with local groups. We also can explore planning a trip specifically for your group. Scheduling a trip to visit your group is dependent on several factors, so we highly encourage you to submit your request and we will be happy to explore options.

Absolutely. Please indicate in your visit request forms the timeframes of each period you’d like us to connect with, and we will be happy to factor that into our planning.

We primarily facilitate virtual visits through Zoom and Teams. If your group needs to utilize an alternative platform, please let us know and we’d be happy to explore setting it up for our team.

We ask that you have a projector space ready where you can display our virtual meeting platform, as we will be screen sharing a presentation. Please also ensure that your sound is set up to come through a speaker loud enough for your group to hear rather than just your laptop speakers. We appreciate getting to connect with your students, so please try to angle your camera to face your students. Please check the sound input and output on your computer to ensure we will be able to hear each other. The most successful set up typically looks like a laptop placed at the front of the room/near the front, with the camera facing students, hooked up to project our screen shared presentation on your projector. If you’d like to schedule a time to test our presentation with us, we are happy to do so.
