Students auditioning for any of the woodwind or brass sections of Longhorn Band must complete an online audition video. Please record yourself (files must include both audio and video) performing all the audition material. Your upper body including hands/fingers must be visible throughout the video. We prefer that your audition video be either one continuous video, or if filmed in multiple takes, edited together as one long video.
If you do not have access to an instrument for this video audition, please notate that on your Prospective Member Audition Form and also let our office staff know by emailing them at lhbinfo@utexas.edu.
The video submission deadline is July 1.
Your preliminary audition consists of:
- 6 major scales (G, F, E-flat, D-flat, B-flat, A; all concert pitch)
- Full-range chromatic scale
- Brief lyrical excerpt of your choice
- Brief technical excerpt of your choice
The Longhorn Band consists of the following wind and brass instrumentation. Auditions for specific instruments must be completed on those instruments unless otherwise noted. Auditions are encouraged to be performed on concert instruments whenever possible.

- B-flat Clarinet
- Alto Saxophone
- Tenor Saxophone
- Trumpet
- Horn
- Trombone

When you are ready to submit your video audition, please send a link (Unlisted and not Private if on YouTube) to your video with your name and EID to lhbinfo@utexas.edu. This will complete the submission of your audition, and you can expect to hear from our office via email approximately one week after your submission informing you of your audition result.
