In 2020, the earnings of all endowments dedicated to Longhorn Band made it possible to award scholarships to 164 students. Awards ranged from $1200 to $3500, and total dollars distributed were $292,200 compared to $257,760 in 2019.
Since the first student awards were made in the mid-1960s, funds provided by loyal band alumni and friends exceed $1.4 million and 1,400 scholarships to deserving Longhorn Band students!
The largest part of our scholarship program is the General Scholarship Fund, which provides support to Longhorn Band members based upon their leadership and contributions to the band, their academic achievements, and financial need.
The Longhorn Alumni Band works closely with The University of Texas Development office to solicit and maintain support of all types for the Longhorn Band and its students, and the largest and most important part of this program is our ongoing goal of providing a scholarship to every student in the Longhorn Band. As of Fall 2020, close to 1/3 of all students in the Longhorn Band received a band-related scholarship, and the Longhorn Alumni Band remains committed to its long-term goal of eventually extending this support to all Longhorn Band members.
