Harry Ransom Center docents are volunteer guides who lead daily tours of the Center’s exhibitions. In the months leading up to exhibition openings, docents work closely with exhibition curators to gain a more complete understanding of exhibition items and content. The docent training process involves readings, discussion, and intense familiarization with the exhibition.

Isabella Savage is a Westlake High School student who spent the fall semester as an intern with Curator of Art Peter Mears to help gather and organize data related to the materials in the exhibition Frank Reaugh: Landscapes of Texas and the American West. Isabella met with Peter two hours per week to fulfill her requirements for Westlake High’s Mentorship Program, which places students with professionals in their working environment. The works on view from the Ransom Center’s collection in Frank Reaugh: Landscapes of Texas and the American West have been at The University of Texas at Austin since before the Ransom Center was founded. One of the most popular visitor features of our current exhibition Frank Reaugh: Landscapes of Texas and the American West is the “guide by cell” audio tour for visitors. This audio tour lets visitors call in and hear informational snippets about the paintings on display. Ransom Center Curator of Art Peter Mears discusses highlights from the exhibition, and Project Specialist Greg Curtis speaks as the voice of Frank Reaugh to narrate the artist’s own comments.
