The University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (REEES) is seeking an experienced and passionate Russian Language Instructor for the 2025 STARTALK Residential Summer Program. This exciting opportunity will take place from June 23 to July 12, 2025, on the University of Pittsburgh’s vibrant campus in Pittsburgh, PA, and offers college students the chance to enhance their Russian language skills at the Intermediate High to Advanced Low proficiency levels.

While the program runs during these dates, the contract spans from May 1 to August 31, 2025, allowing time for preparation, collaboration with the Program Director, Dr. Olga Klimova, and post-program grade reporting. The instructor will work closely with Dr. Klimova to design and deliver a curriculum that adheres to STARTALK’s principles, focusing on the theme of Modern Technology, Artificial Intelligence, and Cybersecurity. Applicants must be U.S. residents or permanent residents and must be physically located in the U.S. at the start of the contract date. This is a unique chance to make a meaningful impact on students while contributing to an innovative and immersive educational experience.

Call for Papers for Davis Center’s Third Annual Graduate Student Conference on Central Asia

The Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies at Harvard University will host the third annual graduate student conference on Central Asia from April 18 to 20, 2025. We invite paper proposals from graduate students at any stage, including master’s students, working on a topic related to Central Asia within any discipline. The conference will allow U.S.-based graduate students to present their original and ongoing work professionally and receive feedback from peers and experts in the field.

Call for Proposals: Central Asia Research Forum

Deadline: January 24, 2025

The Central Asia Research Forum aims to, through formal and informal discussions, bring together scholars in all disciplines and stages of the research process to discuss the theme of Teaching Central Asia. Since 1991 (and before), scholars have been trying to take on a recurring question, how should we study and teach Central Asia? Specifically, what new conceptual frameworks should we develop to convey the imbalance in sources, perspectives, and academic training, including disparities in access to publishing outlets and the production of knowledge itself? We invite scholars to submit proposals that retrace the founding of Central Asian Studies, in the region and abroad, and the numerous academic institutions that trained (and continue to do so) generations of scholars to study and teach this region.

The REED COLLEGE Russian department invites applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in Russian and Humanities to commence in August 2025. Reed is a highly selective liberal arts institution with a commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship.

Candidates should specialize in Russian or Russophone literature and/or film. A Ph.D. in Slavic or a related field (in hand by August 2025) is required. Other requirements include native or near-native proficiency in both Russian and English, and experience of college-level teaching. While the candidates’ areas of research expertise are open, we particularly welcome applications from those who, in addition to literature and language, can teach courses on film and media in Russia, Eastern Europe, and/or Eurasia.

The Petro Jacyk Program for the Study of Ukraine at the Centre for European and Eurasian Studies (CEES), Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, University of Toronto is accepting applications for the Petro Jacyk Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Ukrainian Politics, Culture, and Society for the 2025-2026 academic year. The objective of the Post-Doctoral Fellowship is to support annually one of the most promising junior scholars studying contemporary Ukraine and thereby to advance academic understanding of Ukrainian politics, culture, and society. European & Eurasian Undergraduate Research Symposium

URS—the European & Eurasian Undergraduate Research Symposium—is scheduled for March 28, 2025 and open to undergraduates from all majors and institutions who have written a research paper (social science, humanities, or business perspective) focusing on Eastern, Western, or Central Europe, the European Union, Russia, or Central Eurasia.

The Center for Russia, East Europe, and Central Asia at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is accepting applications for our MA Degree Program in Russian, East European, and Central Asian Studies (REECAS). The deadline to apply for matriculation in Fall 2025 is January 8, 2025.

The REECAS MA provides interdisciplinary area studies training for emerging professionals and future leaders. The curriculum is designed to promote:

abroad understanding of the cultural, political, economic, social, and historical factors that have shaped the development of societies in Eurasia, Russia, and Eastern and Central Europe;
professional-level proficiency in one or more languages of Eurasia and Eastern and Central Europe;
knowledge of methodological and analytical approaches of different disciplines that will contribute to a better understanding of the region and prepare students for conducting advanced research.
