Undergraduate students working in any relevant discipline are invited to submit their papers for consideration to the UC Undergraduate Journal of Slavic and East/Central European Studies. All papers will be subject to peer review.

Please consider submitting a paper proposal for a working group on Central and East European Theatre on the topic of “publics” hosted at the American Society for Theatre Research Conference from November 7-10, 2019 in Arlington, Virginia.
The working group format provides support, discussion and collaboration on work in multiple stages of development. Deadline for proposal submission is June 1st.

Austin, Texas – The Intelligence Studies Project of The University of Texas at Austin announces the fifth annual competition recognizing outstanding student research and writing on topics related to intelligence and national security. The winner of the “Inman Award” will receive a cash prize of $5000, with two semifinalists each receiving a cash prize of $2500. This competition is open to unpublished work by undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in degree programs at accredited U.S. higher education institutions during the 2018-19 academic year. The deadline for submitting papers is June 30, 2019.

The ASEEES Graduate Student Essay Prize was established in 1990 and is awarded for an outstanding essay by a graduate student in Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies. The winner of the competition receives free roundtrip domestic airfare to and room at the ASEEES Annual Convention and an honorary ASEEES membership for the following year. The Robert C. Tucker/Stephen F. Cohen Dissertation Prize, established in 2006 and sponsored by the KAT Charitable Foundation, is awarded annually (if there is a distinguished submission) for an outstanding English-language doctoral dissertation in Soviet or Post-Soviet politics and history in the tradition practiced by Robert C. Tucker and Stephen F. Cohen. The dissertation must be defended at an American or Canadian university, and must be completed during the calendar year prior to the award. The prize carries a $5,000 award intended to help the author turn the dissertation into a publishable manuscript. The prize is awarded at the ASEEES Annual Convention.

The 2019 Canadian Association of Slavists/Taylor & Francis Book Prize has released a call for submissions! Please note that all submissions must be postmarked by or on 15 May 2019. Full details follow in English below.
The book prize jury consists of three members chosen by the CAS executive. Nominations for the 2019 Book Prize competition are to be postmarked by or on 15 May 2019. The prize winner will be announced in an e-mail to CAS members and on the CAS/CSP website in September 2019. Teaching Nabokov’s Lolita in the #MeToo Era

The volume seeks essays that explore the experience of teaching Lolita in the #MeToo Era.
I hope to bring together responses to Nabokov’s art that blend pedagogy and critical analysis. After teaching the novel for years, many of us have witnessed (and continue to witness) a fascinating shift in student responses to the text following the start of the #MeToo movement. Some of us rethought the methodology of presenting Lolita and of navigating productive class discussions. I see this volume as a space to start a conversation about the evolving nature of the intellectual (and emotional) task of bringing Lolita to our students and to share faculty insights and best practices.

2019 Midwest Slavic Association Student Essay Prize Competition Submissions Now Being Accepted
The Midwest Slavic Association, with support from the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES), is now accepting submissions for its annual essay prize competition for undergraduate and graduate students. Students can submit a paper on any topic related to Slavic, East European, and Eurasian studies to the Midwest Slavic Association for consideration. The best undergraduate paper received will win a one-year membership to ASEEES, and the graduate winner will receive a one-year membership to ASEEES, as well as being considered then for the ASEEES Graduate Student Essay Prize at the national level. The graduate winner of the ASEEES Student Essay Prize at the national level wins travel, lodging, and registration for the Annual ASEEES Convention and membership for the following year. The prize is presented during the awards presentation at the Annual Convention.
Submissions should be emailed to csees@osu.edu by Tuesday, April 30!
