Funding Opportunity: Peace Fellowship Application (Rotary)

Peace Fellowship Application

Each year, Rotary funds some of the world’s most dedicated and brightest professionals to study at Rotary Peace Centers. Through training, study, and practice, Rotary Peace Fellows become leaders and catalysts for peace and conflict resolution; many go on to careers in national governments, NGOs, the military, law enforcement, and international organizations like the United Nations and World Bank.

Applications for the 2018-19 Rotary Peace Fellowship program are now being accepted. The deadline for applicants to submit applications to their district is 31 May. Districts must submit endorsed applications to The Rotary Foundation by 1 July.

Eligibility requirements

The Rotary Peace Fellowship is designed for professionals with work experience in international relations or peace and conflict prevention and resolution. Our fellows are committed to community and international service and the pursuit of peace.

Applicants must also meet the following requirements:

  • Proficiency in English; proficiency in a second language is strongly recommended
  • Strong commitment to international understanding and peace as demonstrated through professional and academic achievements and personal or community service
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Master’s degree applicants: minimum three years of related full-time work or volunteer experience, bachelor’s degree
  • Certificate applicants: minimum five years of related full-time work or volunteer experience, strong academic background

Prof. Devel.: 11th Annual Russian Summer School on Institutional Analysis (HSE)

The 11th Annual Russian Summer School on Institutional Analysis “The EU Practices for Young Researchers: Studying Economics of Institutional Development” (RSSIA 2017) is organized by the Center for Institutional Studies, National Research University Higher School of Economics (CInSt, HSE). We focus on recent developments in NIE and possibilities and challenges of applied research in the institutional economics framework. RSSIA 2017 is aimed at disseminating the best practices of institutional change and effective institutional reforms to assure their successful application at the less developed markets and the economies in or immediately after the transition. The schedule of the Summer School includes lectures, seminars and plenty of possibilities to discuss the participants’ research projects.
Priority in the selection will be given to research projects that are related to the following fields:
— Economics of public sector, bureaucracy, and procurement
— Economics of education

— Banks and financial markets
— Industrial organization, government regulation, and law enforcement
— Property rights, institutions and economic development
There is no registration fee. Organizers cover participants’ accommodation and meals costs. However, participants cover their travel and visa costs.
All RSSIA participants will have an opportunity:
— to attend the lectures of distinguished experts in various spheres of institutional economics and adjoining disciplines;
— to present and discuss research during seminars;
— to exchange the research experience with other RSSIA participants and faculty members;
— and consequently, to improve their research significantly.

2017 Fundamentals of Project-Based Language Learning (PBLL) Online Institute

Embark on a journey of discovery in which you will learn more about the elements of high quality, rigorous Project-Based Language Learning (PBLL). During this year’s online institute, you’ll explore PBLL’s connections with experiential learning, career pathways, 21st Century Skills, performance-based assessment, and your own instructional context. You will also connect with colleagues who have a common interest in quality PBLL implementation as experts in the field guide you through the creation of a project blueprint. 

Complete Option 1 as part of a facilitated cohort (webinar) or Option 2 via self-paced study. Registration for this online institute is $25. Successfully complete all assigned tasks to earn an NFLRC Digital Badge, which qualifies you to apply for the NFLRC PBLL Intensive Summer Institute, Pathways to PBLL, offered in Honolulu in 2017. Scholarship: Funding for Int’l Business & STEM Internships in Russia (American Councils)

American Councils is pleased to announce a new scholarship to support U.S. undergraduate and graduate students participating in business, innovation, and STEM internships in Russia.

The Business, Technology, and Innovation Scholarship supports U.S. undergraduate and graduate students who seek to participate in one of two American Councils internship programs in Russia:

Scholarship Awards
Business, Technology, and Innovation Scholarships are awarded on the basis of financial need, academic merit, and program compatibility; awards range from $3,000 to $5,000.

Eligibility
U.S. undergraduate and graduate students in business or STEM fields are eligible to apply for American Councils Business, Technology, and Innovation Scholarships. Applicants must be admitted to either OPIT or BRLI to receive funding. No prior study of Russian is required to participate in OPIT.

Application & Questions

Funding Opportunity: NEH Summer Institute “What is Gained in Translation: Learning How to Read Translated Texts” (NEH)

Title: NEH Summer Institute “What is Gained in Translation: Learning How to Read Translated Texts”
Sponsor: National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH)
Amount: $2,700 stipend 

Description: This NEH Summer Institute at Kent State University (June 4–24, 2017) is dedicated to the study of texts in translation as a way to develop cross-cultural literacy and to explore what can be gained by addressing issues of translation in the classroom. For scholars in the Humanities and Social Sciences who work with translated texts, this institute will provide the theoretical models and applications developed through Translation Studies that will enable them to exploit translation as a teachable moment. These strategies are designed to sensitize students and teachers to the worldviews embedded in other languages and to make them aware of the cultural specificity of their own modes of thinking and perception. The overall goal of the institute is to develop systematic approaches to teaching translated texts so that readers can both perceive the worldviews to which those texts give us access while acknowledging the important mediating role of the translators.
