Grad Program: MA in Russian and Slavic Studies (University of Arizona)

The University of Arizona’s Department of Russian and Slavic Studies invites applications to our MA degree program. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, with a final deadline of March 1, 2022, to be considered for financial aid. The Masters of Arts in Russian and Slavic Studies offers a diversified program of study with courses in language, literature, linguistics, and culture. The MA Program has two tracks that offer students from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to gain expertise in their specific fields of interest. Students in the Language, Literature, and Linguistics (LLL) track complete a rigorous program of study that culminates in MA Exams; graduates on the Russian and East European Studies (REES) track develop a specific area of focus and complete a MA thesis.

Undergraduate CFP

The North American Dostoevsky Society (NADS) invites IDS/NADS members in good standing to nominate outstanding student essays on Dostoevsky-related topics. (If you are not a member of IDS or NADS, you can join at https://dostoevsky.org/). Students are welcome to nominate their own work, in which case IDS/NADS membership is not required. The topic is open; however, Dostoevsky and his works should be the main focus of the essay. The winner of the undergraduate contest will receive free membership in NADS for one year and a Dostoevsky-themed swag.

Acad. Job: István Deák Visiting Professorship(s) in East Central European Studies (Columbia University)

Columbia University invites applications for István Deák Visiting Professorship(s) in East Central European Studies for one or two semesters (fall and/or spring) in the academic year 2021-2022. The professorship, commemorating Professor Deák’s legacy of excellence in research and teaching, is open to scholars who have active interest and accomplishments in East and Central European studies. Appointment(s) will be open-rank, to be filled at any level from Visiting Assistant to Visiting Full Professor.

The visiting professor(s) will be appointed in one of the Humanities or Social Science departments of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. The visitors will teach two courses per semester, one a lecture course of broad interest for undergraduates, the other a seminar for upper-level undergraduates and graduate students. The visitors are expected to give one public lecture and participate in the academic life of the University, whose interests in East and Central European studies are well represented on campus by the East Central European Center, the European Institute, and the Harriman Institute.

Fully-Funded Academic Fellowships in Russia (American Councils)

Provided by a grant from Carnegie Corporation of New York, the American Councils Academic Fellowships in Russia program (AFR) will support U.S. graduate students, faculty, and independent scholars as they conduct research for three to nine consecutive months on topics within the social sciences disciplines in Russia.

The total value of each fellowship ranges from $10,000 – $45,000, with actual level of support depending on the duration of the overseas research period and the academic rank of the awardee. Typical awards include:

International airfare
Academic affiliation with a leading local university or educational institution
Visa(s) arranged by American Councils in collaboration with host institutions
Housing and living stipends
Health insurance
Ongoing logistical support from American Councils
24-hour emergency assistance

Funding: Horowitz Foundation for Social Policy Grant

Aim and Mission

To support emerging scholars through small grants;

Funding

Grants are based solely on merit. Each is worth a total of $7,500; $5,000 is awarded initially and $2,500 upon completion of the project.

Grad Program: MA and PhD in Literature and Slavic Linguistics (University of Washington)

The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Washington invites applications to its M.A. and Ph.D. programs in Literature and Slavic Linguistics starting in Fall, 2021.

We offer our top applicant a three-year initial funding package (1 year of tuition/fee waiver and a generous stipend, plus two years of TAships/RAships) plus a recruitment allowance of $3,000-5,000.

We seek students who have had at least four years of Russian language training and other related coursework (although those with less will still be considered). We also welcome applicants who have completed an M.A. in Slavic Languages and Literatures (or related fields). Please note we require a Skype/Zoom interview, conducted partly in the relevant language, as part of our application process.
