The Yerevan Center for International Education (YCIE) is delighted to announce the second annual Y-Conference. YCIE is dedicated to promoting international academic and research cooperation in the social sciences and humanities across Armenia and the wider region. The Y-Conference brings together scholars who work in or focus on the Caucasus and Eurasia to present their latest research and discuss their ongoing projects. Conceived as an inclusive and safe space, the conference fosters dialogue across academic disciplines and national borders — a gathering where new concepts and collaborative projects can emerge and take shape.

Funding: Title VIII Fellowships

Deadline: December 5, 2025

Title VIII Fellowships fund the study of:

  1. Intensive online Elementary Azerbaijani, BCS, Czech, Estonian, Hungarian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Romanian, Ukrainian, and Uzbek
  2. Intensive online Advanced Russian (5th and 6th years)
  3. Intensive in-person, on-campus Russian (3rd and 4th years) in Indiana
  4. Intensive study-abroad (3rd – 5th year Russian) in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan

Title VIII Fellowships provide full funding for graduate students, researchers, and professionals seeking to strengthen their language proficiency for advanced study or field research. U.S. citizenship is required. Participants receive rigorous, immersive training from expert faculty and join a vibrant academic community dedicated to the study of Eastern Europe, Eurasia, and the independent states of the former Soviet Union.

2026 Summer Institute for the Study of East Central and Southeastern Europe

Deadline: December 2, 2025

The American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) invites applications for the Summer Institute for the Study of East Central and Southeastern Europe (SISECSE) 2025-26 competition. In partnership with the Centre for Advanced Study Sofia (CAS), ACLS will convene leading scholars from Eastern Europe and North America for a two-week residency in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria from June 3 to June 19, 2026.

SISECSE will provide participating scholars with time and space to dedicate to their own research and writing in a collaborative and interdisciplinary setting. The program covers travel, accommodation, and per diem expenses. Scholars are expected to be in residence and to participate in all planned events for the duration of the institute.

Since 1933 the APS has awarded small grants to scholars in order to support the cost of research leading to publication in all areas of knowledge. In 2024–2025 the Franklin Research Grants program awarded nearly $675,000 to more than 100 scholars, and the Society expects to make a similar number of awards in this year’s competition.
