Acad. Job: Teaching Assistant Professor of Polish (University of Pittsburgh)

The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for the position of Director of the Polish Studies Program, pending budgetary approval. The appointment will be made at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor and will begin in the fall of 2025. Duties include: (i) teaching Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Polish language, as well as Polish or Polish-comparative literature, cinema, and culture in English at the undergraduate level; and (ii) non-teaching duties include oversight of Polish cultural and outreach activities in accordance with programming goals identified by the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures. Scholarly publication and active participation in national professional associations are encouraged but are not a prerequisite for appointment or renewal.

Graduate Student Research Fellowships: Harry Ransom Center (UT Austin)

Deadline: November 4, 2024

The Harry Ransom Center will award 50 Research Fellowships for it’s 2025-2026 Humanities program. These fellowships are open to graduate students (including doctoral candidates), academic faculty at any career stage, and independent researchers such as journalists and artists who require substantial on-site archival research. Application deadline is November 4, 2024 by 5:00 pm CST. Three types of fellowships are available: 

  1. One-to-Two-Month Fellowships ($3,500 per month): for projects that require extensive use of the Center’s collections.
  2. Travel Stipends ($2,000) are available for those requiring significant on-site research and cannot be combined with other Ransom Center fellowships
  3. Dissertation Fellowships ($2,000) are available for graduate students whose doctoral dissertation require use of the Center’s collections. 

Study Abroad: Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (American University of Central Asia, Bard College)

Spring 2025 Bard-AUCA Study Abroad Program in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The program is hosted by the American University of Central Asia (AUCA), a Bard College long-term dual-degree partner. Undergraduate (typically second-, third-, and fourth-year) students are invited to apply. Below is the program description. 

We now offer three academic tracks for the spring semester: 

  • Beginning Russian Language Track;
  • Intermediate/Advanced Russian Language Track*; 
  • Liberal Arts Track.

*Students with at least one year of college level Russian can apply for the Intermediate/Advanced Russian Language Track.

CFP: History of Southeast Europe

Deadline: June 30 and November 30, 2024

For the two upcoming issues (Volume 83 and Volume 84), Southeast Research invites submissions from all areas of the history of Southeast Europe. The submission deadline for Volume 83 is June 30, 2024 , and for Volume 84, November 30, 2024 .

Südost-Forschungen is one of the oldest periodical publications on the history of Southeast Europe. Its first volume appeared in 1936; since then, the journal, which is published as a yearbook, has developed into one of the leading publications for German and international research on the history of Southeast Europe. For the coming year, Südost-Forschungen plans to switch from one yearbook to two issues per year.
