DESCRIPTION

American Cultural Exchange Service (ACES) is seeking a qualified Assistant Resident Director (ARD) to work virtually with a group of up to 20 US high school students for an approximately six-week program through the National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) Program. The students will engage in language and cultural learning through virtual classes, cultural activities and one-on-one peer partners. The ARD is required to attend a two-day pre-program training, which will be held virtually in late May to early June, participate in pre-program orientation and community building activities, represent ACES for the duration of the program (late June to mid-August), and submit reports during and immediately after the program.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Department of Slavic, East European and Eurasian Languages and Cultures is seeking a part-time Lecturer to teach one three-quarter sequence of Polish for the 2021 – 2022 academic year, which begins July 1, 2021. The ideal candidate should have demonstrated knowledge of Polish language, as well as a familiarity with contemporary instructional technologies. Fluency in Polish and English is required, as well knowledge of Polish culture. The ideal candidate must also hold at minimum a M.A. degree in a related field. The Midwest Slavic Association is now accepting submissions for the 2021 Midwest Slavic Association Student Essay Prize Competition. The deadline is May 14, 2021. Eligible undergraduate and graduate students can submit a paper on any topic related to Slavic, East European, and Eurasian studies to the Midwest Slavic Association for consideration. See below for eligibility details and guidelines on submissions. The best undergraduate paper will win a one-year membership to the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES), and the graduate winner will receive a one-year membership to ASEEES, as well as being considered then for the ASEEES Graduate Student Essay Prize at the national level. This competition is made possible through the support of ASEEES.

Grad. Program: MA in Slavic at UChicago

Deadline: April 30, 2021

Students seeking to improve their qualifications for Ph.D. programs or work in the professions might be interested in the University of Chicago’s Master of Arts Program in the Humanities. MAPH offers a concentration in Russian and East European Studies and also a Two-Year Language Option, which allows students in good standing to take a second year of courses devoted to language study with a 95% tuition remission (for the second year). The one-year program focuses on development of theoretical/analytical skills.

Job: Summer Russian Instructor (Pitt SLI)

Russian Instructor Slavic Languages & Literatures – Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh – (21000049)  

The Slavic, East European and Near Eastern Summer Language Institute (SLI) at the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures seeks instructors of Russian for the summer of 2021.

Instructors will teach an 8-week intensive course during SLI’s summer session, which runs from June 7-July 30. Classes meet five days a week from 9am-2:50pm. In additional to classroom teaching, instructors are expected to help plan cultural programming for their language program and attend events for the whole institute, such as film and lecture series, workshops, and picnics. Instructors may be asked to team teach. SLI expects that our programs will be conducted in an in-person format on the main campus the University of Pittsburgh, with the added option for students to participate synchronously online. If gathering on campus is prohibited in connection with COVID-19 mitigation, instructors will teach online synchronously via Zoom.
