Deadline: November 15, 2021
AATSEEL has received a generous grant to fund a non-degree certificate program in inclusive pedagogy in Slavic languages and literatures. The program will train two cohorts of thirty professionals in the field at different levels, pre-college teachers, graduate students, and faculty members. Its goals are to foster community, attract a broader range of students to the study of Russian, and better support students of diverse backgrounds.
The program will involve remote participation in workshop sessions before and after the February 17-20 AATSEEL conference in Philadelphia, and participation in workshops and community-building events at the conference. The grant subsequently pays for participants’ registration, air travel (max $400), lodging at the conference hotel, and a per diem for meals during the conference, as well as any books and materials required for training events. AATSEEL will grant the participants complimentary membership, if they are not already current members of the organization.
We anticipate that our cohort for the first year of the program will include 10 K-12 teachers, 10 graduate students, and 10 post-secondary faculty (any career stage, institution type, or employment status).
To apply, please fill out the online application, including a 250-word explanation of how you anticipate that students would benefit from what you would learn during this program. The deadline is November 15 at midnight Pacific time. Applicants will be informed about the status of their candidacy by November 30. The application can be found here: https://www.aatseel.org/development/certificate/
If you have any questions, please contact AATSEEL Executive Director Elizabeth Durst (aatseel@usc.edu), AATSEEL Conference Manager Rachel Stauffer (aatseelconference@usc.edu), or CDIPS Project Manager Jillian Burgie Costello (aatseelcertificate@usc.edu).
We recommend that prospective applicants consult the schedule on the website to confirm their future availability for the fullest participation possible in the founding cohort. For information about the conference in Philadelphia, please visit the AATSEEL Conference pages on the AATSEEL website: https://www.aatseel.org/program
*Note that this Certificate Program is separate from the AATSEEL K-12 Teacher Excellence Program. Prospective candidates may apply to both.
