Summer Research Internship Opportunity at the Wilson Center, DC (onsite or remote)

Seeking candidates for a paid, part-time summer Research Internship at the Kennan Institute of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, Washington, DC (either onsite or remote).
The selected intern will conduct directed but independent research in keyword-searchable online collections of historical Russian- and/or Ukrainian-language newspapers from the interwar period. Themes researched will fall primarily in the areas of economics and security, with specific topics to include smuggling, espionage, border control, natural resources, and international relations.


The intern will develop primary-source research skills while acquiring a firsthand familiarity with the above issues in the context of Soviet and international history. The intern will contribute to original, policy-relevant historical research, be credited in resulting publications, and benefit from scholarly mentorship. They will gain skills, experience, and credentials relevant to a range of career pathways, particularly in the areas of national security, international trade, economic development, and foreign affairs.
The intern will commit to working 10-15 hours per week on a flexible schedule, for 2 months, starting in late June or early July 2024.

Reading fluency in Russian and/or Ukrainian is essential for this role.
