First Year Yiddish Online Course (UT Austin)

This fall, the University of Texas at Austin and the Yiddish Book Center will jointly offer a new, online college Yiddish course for novice learners. Students will develop proficiency as speakers, readers, listeners, and writers of Yiddish by using the language actively with their peers and instructor, and by engaging with authentic texts and textbook materials. By the end of the course, students will be able to provide basic information about themselves; participate in conversations on a variety of everyday topics; read short texts; and write simple sentences on familiar subjects. The course, First-Year Yiddish I, will also introduce students to the history of the Yiddish language and the breadth of Yiddish culture.

The course is open enrollment and provides 3 hours of academic credit from UT Austin. The registration fee is $850. Financial assistance may be available to learners who are unable to use other sources of funding to pay the registration fee.
