Acad. Job: Research Professor of Russia and Eurasia Studies (US Army War College)

Duties

  • Serve as Research Professor of Russian and Eurasian Studies in the Strategic Studies Institute (SSI), the research institute of the US Army War College.
  • Perform research and publish SSI studies, journal articles, policy-oriented essays, special reports, books, and book chapters.
  • Design individual and collective annual research and publication plans, in consultation with SSI leadership, addressing contemporary national security issues and the application of landpower.
  • Conduct research focusing on Eurasian and Russian national security strategy and policy, including implications for the United States policy and defense as well as on NATO.
  • Develop recommendations to achieve key national security objectives specifically oriented toward those factors that impact U.S. and European defense priorities.
  • Engage in and occasionally lead collective (i.e., study group-based) cross-functional research and analysis teams.
  • Attend and participate in relevant academic conferences by presenting papers and/or acting as panel chair or discussant.
  • Coordinate and engage with and brief senior military headquarters in the region and external agencies on behalf of SSI, USAWC, and the Army.
  • Respond to specific requests from the US Army Chief of Staff, the Army and Joint Staffs, Office of the Secretary of Defense, US European and US Army European Command, or other elements of the Defense enterprise.
  • Lead, organize, and implement SSI and USAWC professional collaboration, conferences, seminars, symposiums, workshops, and meetings.
  • Contribute to the educational mission of the USAWC through teaching, lecturing, advising fellow faculty, curriculum development, and mentoring student research projects.
