Advanced Russian Language & Area Studies Program (RLASP)
Dates: June 6 – August 8, 2019 (Russia) / June 11 – August 11, 2019 (Almaty)
Program Features:
- 20 hours per week of intensive coursework in Russian grammar, conversation, and phonetics, as well as Russian literature, history, political science, and mass media
- Small class sizes (4 – 6 students) — all courses taught in Russian
- Weekly cultural activities and extended regional field study excursions led by U.S. resident directors
- Pre-departure orientation in Washington, DC and in-country orientation
- U.S. undergraduate and graduate academic credit in Russian language from Bryn Mawr College
- Special fellowship from U.S. Department of Education — Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad (Moscow only): $5,000
- Special fellowship from U.S. Department of State — Title VIII Language Fellowships: up to $6,000.
Russian Heritage Speakers Program
Dates: June 6 – August 8, 2019 (Russia) / June 11 – August 11, 2019 (Almaty)
Program Features:
- 15 – 20 hours per week of intensive coursework in Russian grammar, conversation, and vocabulary; may include classes with Russian students at their host university
- Individualized courses; participants actively shape their own curricula
- Weekly cultural activities and extended regional field study excursions led by U.S. resident directors
- Pre-departure orientation in Washington, DC and in-country orientation
- U.S. undergraduate and graduate academic credit in Russian language from Bryn Mawr College
All applicants to American Councils study abroad programs are eligible to apply for financial aid, including a Diversity Scholarship, a Need-Based Scholarship, and program-specific scholarships.
Past program participants have successfully applied additional outside sources of financial aid, including Fund for Education Abroad Scholarships, Boren Awards,FLAS Fellowships, and Gilman Scholarships to further reduce their out-of-pocket costs.
The deadline to apply for both programs is February 15, 2019.
