Indiana University, Bloomington is pleased to accept applications for the CRRES Postdoctoral Fellowship for scholars studying race and ethnicity from a broad range of fields in the social sciences, humanities, education, public policy, and media. These fellowships are designed to nurture the academic careers of new scholars by providing opportunities to pursue research while gaining teaching experience and mentorship from CRRES affiliates and faculty in host departments. Strong applicants will demonstrate evidence of scholarship potentially competitive for tenure-track appointments at Indiana University and other research universities.

Terms of Agreement

Fellows are expected to pursue research activities associated with their primary area, as demonstrated by conference presentations and published work. Fellows will also teach one course in their home departments during each year of their residency, and are expected to participate in CRRES activities and in seminars in their home departments.

The two-year position begins on August 1, 2020 and ends on May 31, 2022, at a 10-month annual salary of $51,500. The postdoctoral fellow will also receive $3,000 each year in research support and Indiana University health benefits. Fellows are allocated office space, and a computer and printer.

The Department of Russian and Slavic Studies in the School of International Languages, Literatures and Cultures (SILLC) at the University of Arizona is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor with an area of specialization in literature and/or cultural studies. The top candidate will have the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds. Acad. Job: Lecturer of Russian (Smith College)

The Program in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies at Smith College invites applications for a 3-year, benefits-eligible position at the rank of Lecturer of Russian to begin July 1, 2020. The position may be renewed dependent on enrollments and funding. Teaching responsibilities include courses in all levels of Russian language. Applicants should have a strong foundation in Russian language and culture pedagogy; candidates with experience in program building and organizing extra- and co-curricular activities are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates who hold a Ph.D. in Slavic Languages and Literatures or a related field (ABD acceptable), and applicants with MA in Slavic Languages and Literatures or a related field with college teaching experience will be considered. 

Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies at Smith is an interdisciplinary program with a growing number of majors. Acad. Job: István Deák Visiting Professorship(s) in East Central European Studies (Columbia University)

Columbia University invites applications for István Deák Visiting Professorship(s) in East Central European Studies for one or two semesters (fall and/or spring) in the academic year 2020-2021. The professorship, commemorating Professor Deák’s legacy of excellence in research and teaching, is open to scholars who have active interest and accomplishments in East and Central European studies. Appointment(s) will be open-rank, to be filled at any level from Visiting Assistant to Visiting Full Professor.

The visiting professor(s) will be appointed in one of the Humanities or Social Science departments of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. The visitors will teach two courses per semester, one a lecture course of broad interest for undergraduates, the other a seminar for upper-level undergraduates and graduate students. The visitors are expected to give one public lecture and participate in the academic life of the University, whose interests in East and Central European studies are well represented on campus by the East Central European Center, the European Institute, and the Harriman Institute.

Acad. Job: Assistant/Associate Political Scientist – Russia/Eastern Europe (University of Texas)

The Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies (DSES) in collaboration with the Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (CREEES) at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for the position of tenure-track assistant or tenured associate professor of Political Science, with an anticipated start in the fall semester of 2020. We seek applications from scholars with expertise on Russia and preferably at least one other East European state, who conduct research in the requisite languages. Scholarship must focus on the Russian circulation/weaponization of (dis)information in Eastern Europe, and ideally, the larger global context. We prefer candidates whose interests span and connect quantitative and qualitative approaches, and are informed by interdisciplinary methods. We seek also candidates who are policy oriented, and who can speak to the larger national and international policy implications of their research. The selected candidate will be housed in the interdisciplinary Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies with a courtesy appointment in Government. They will be expected to exhibit a commitment to service in the DSES, CREEES, the college, and university, and be qualified to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as direct graduate and undergraduate student independent research.

We seek applications from scholars who work on East Central Europe, with a specialization in cultural studies (including literary studies). Engagement in interdisciplinary and digital scholarship is welcome, and all candidates must have an active research and publication agenda. Candidates will be expected to teach one of the following languages: Czech, Polish, or Ukrainian and other departmental service courses, as part of a two course per semester load. Acad. Job: Assistant Professor of Russian Language (Vanderbilt University)

The Department of German, Russian, and East European Studies invites applications for an Assistant Professor of the Practice in Russian Language to join our expanding interdisciplinary department. This is a full-time, renewable, non-tenure track position with an initial term of three years.  Our ideal candidate will be skilled in Communicative Language Teaching practices. The successful candidate will serve as the Russian language program coordinator, will conduct Russian language instruction at all levels, and will coordinate study abroad and other immersion opportunities.

Acad. Job: Alpha Fellowship (Moscow)

The Alfa Fellowship Program is a distinguished international initiative that each year offers up to 18 accomplished young Americans, Britons, and Germans the opportunity to complete a high-level professional development program in Russia. Since 2004, the program has enabled over 180 emerging leaders to gain professional experience at leading organizations in business, media, law, policy, and other related areas through this 11-month, fully-funded fellowship in Moscow.

The Alfa Fellowship Program begins with language training in the fellow’s geographic location followed by a language course in Moscow starting in mid-June. Throughout the summer, Alfa Fellows attend a seminar program with key public and private sector officials to discuss current affairs in Russia. Fellows then work at prominent organizations, including private companies, media outlets, think tanks, and foundations. Trips to cities in the region are interspersed throughout the program year. The in-country portion of the program lasts from mid-June until late April.

Eligible candidates must have a bachelor degree and professional experience in business, economics, journalism, law, public policy, or a related field. Russian language proficiency is not required, but is preferred. The Fellowship includes a generous monthly stipend, language training, program-related travel costs, housing, and insurance.
