Conference: ASEEES Annual Convention (San Francisco)

2019 ANNUAL CONVENTION, SAN FRANCISCO, CA

November 23 – November 26, 2019

One of the core activities of the Association is the annual convention. Held in the fall, the convention takes place each year in a different city in North America. This international forum makes possible a broad exchange of information and ideas, stimulating further work and sustaining the intellectual vitality of the field. This year’s conference will be held from Saturday, November 23 – Tuesday, November 26, 2019 in San Francisco, California.

CFP: ICCEES World Congress (Montreal)

Deadline: December 31, 2019

ASEEES is delighted to sponsor the 2020 ICCEES World Congress, in Montreal, Canada, Aug 4-9, hosted by the Canadian Association of Slavists. It promises to be an outstanding event.

While proposals for complete panels are preferred, proposals are also invited for individual papers and round table discussions. The congress especially welcomes participation by young scholars and graduate students.

RUSSIAN LITERATURE WEEK 2019

May 20–24 in New York, Philadelphia, and Washington DC

RUSSIAN LITERATURE WEEK 2019 presents a series of conversations featuring Russia’s acclaimed new authors, famed translators of Russian fiction, and leading Russian literature scholars and critics.  RUSSIAN LITERATURE WEEK 2019 will take place May 20-24 in literary venues across New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC – and, as always, online.

“Russian Literary Studies in the Digital Age”

Frank Fischer and Boris Orekhov from the Higher School of Economics Centre for Digital Humanities (Moscow) will lead a day-long workshop combining discussions, demonstrations and hands-on exploration of cutting-edge digital humanities approaches to the study of Russian literature.

Prof. Dev: Stanford U.S.–Russia Forum 2019–20

Deadline for Applications: May 3 (early decision); June 7, 2019

The Stanford U.S.-Russia Forum (SURF) is now accepting applications for the 2019-20 program!

The Stanford U.S.-Russia Forum is a platform for students to address the most pressing issues and opportunities between the United States and Russia. They are seeking members for research working groups in the areas of nuclear affairs, entrepreneurship, space exploration, climate and environment, counterterrorism, healthcare, the Arctic, energy geopolitics, security, and more.

This November, participants will attend a week-long conference in Russia. Following the fall conference, participants form working groups and collaborate on research for publication over the academic year. The program concludes with a capstone conference in April 2020 where research findings are presented and ideas are shared with academics, policy-makers, governmental and non-governmental agencies, and other interested parties. “On the Edge”:  An Interdisciplinary Forum on Innovation, Modernity, and Trends
The University of Virginia, Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures
March 29 – 30, 2019

The modern world is punctuated by periods of innovation, revolution, and change. As we conceive of monumental breakthroughs throughout history and across cultures, we look to individuals and movements that have challenged the status quo and broke with accepted norms and traditions. This forum is dedicated to challenging contemporary and historical perceptions and values, identifying outlying ideas and trends, and investigating tensions between the old and the new. How do emerging trends, innovations, and new social outlooks affect our thinking and our society? How do revolutions and uprisings help us understand our particular milieus and our global world? What are the interrelationships between political, economic, scientific, and social change?
