Funding: Sumners Foundation Scholarships

The Sumners Foundation provides two types of scholarships

Scholarships for rising juniors for their junior and senior years at a Texas or Oklahoma College or University. Scholarships are $15,000/year for each of those last two years of undergraduate work ($30,000 total) to cover tuition, on-campus room and board, fees, and books. Students must be U.S. citizens and permanent residents of Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Arkansas, or Kansas. Scholarships will be awarded this spring to be applied in the fall of 2023. Second semester sophomores this spring are the ideal candidates.
FULL–RIDE law school scholarships at SMU Dedman School of Law and Oklahoma City University School of Law. Students must be starting law school in the fall of 2023. Application codes must be obtained from the law schools. Students must beU.S. citizens and permanent residents of Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Arkansas, or Kansas.

In addition to the scholarship, students have special access to programs funded exclusively for their benefit that are designed to broaden their knowledge of civic education and engagement.

Funding: 2023 William T. Grant Scholars Program

Deadline: July 5, 2023

The William T. Grant Scholars Program supports career development for promising early-career researchers. The program funds five-year research and mentoring plans that significantly expand researchers’ expertise in new disciplines, methods, and content areas. The online application is now open, and the application deadline is July 5, 2023 at 3:00 pm ET.

Applicants should have a track record of conducting high-quality research and an interest in pursuing a significant shift in their trajectories as researchers. We recognize that early-career researchers are rarely given incentives or support to take measured risks in their work, so this award includes a mentoring component, as well as a supportive academic community.

Awards are based on applicants’ potential to become influential researchers, as well as their plans to expand their expertise in new and significant ways. The application should make a cohesive argument for how the applicant will expand his or her expertise. The research plan should evolve in conjunction with the development of new expertise, and the mentoring plan should describe how the proposed mentors will support applicants in acquiring that expertise. Proposed research plans must address questions that are relevant to policy and practice in the Foundation’s focus areas.

If you answered yes, then you could apply for – and win! – up to $10,000 through the 2023 Citizen Diplomacy Action Fund for U.S. Alumni. The competition provides small grants to teams of two or more U.S. government-sponsored exchange alumni to carry out public service projects related to one of the following five themes:

The Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies is pleased to announce its call for applications for funding and awards opportunities in 2023–24.

A primary aim of the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies is to foster, develop, and support Ukrainian studies in Canada and internationally. This is done in part by offering or administering post-doctoral fellowships, graduate fellowships (to master’s and doctoral students), and scholarships to undergraduate students. The SIA Scholarship Application is open to rising junior or senior undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in a full or part-time program at an accredited U.S. college or university, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Funding: Linda Hall Library Fellowship Program

The Linda Hall Library is now accepting applications for its 2023-24 fellowship program. These fellowships provide graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and independent scholars in the history of science and related humanities fields with financial support to explore the Library’s outstanding science and engineering collections. Fellows also participate in a dynamic intellectual community alongside in-house experts and scholars from other Kansas City cultural and educational institutions.

The Linda Hall Library holds nearly half a million monographs and more than 43,000 journal titles documenting the history of science and technology from the 15th century to the present. Its collections are exceptionally strong in the engineering disciplines, chemistry, and physics. In addition, the Library boasts extensive resources related to natural history, astronomy, earth science, environmental studies, aeronautics, life science, infrastructure studies, mathematics, and the history of the book.

Funding: 2023 JDC Archives Fellowship

Deadline: January 23, 2023

The JDC Archives is pleased to present its Fellowship program. Up to seven fellowships will be awarded each year to deserving scholars engaged in graduate level, post-doctoral, or independent study to conduct research in the JDC Archives, either in New York or Jerusalem. Research topics in the fields of twentieth century Jewish history, general history, and humanitarian assistance will be considered, as well as other areas of academic research covered in the JDC archival collections.

Candidates must submit applications by January 23, 2023 to the JDC Archives online. An Advisory Committee consisting of leading scholars and members of the JDC Archives Committee will be responsible for selecting the fellows.

CFA: Graduate Research Fellowships at the Center for Jewish History

The Center for Jewish History offers ten-month fellowships to doctoral candidates to support original research using the collections of the Center’s Partners – American Jewish Historical Society, American Sephardi Federation, Leo Baeck Institute, Yeshiva University Museum, and YIVO Institute for Jewish Research. Preference is given to those candidates who draw on the archival and library resources of more than one Partner institution. Fellowships must run for 10 months, starting September 2023, and applicants should have completed all requirements (i.e., coursework, exams, dissertation proposal) for the doctoral degree except for the dissertation.

Fellows are encouraged to spend at least three days per week in residence in the Lillian Goldman Reading Room using the archival and library resources. For those who do not reside in commuting distance of New York, a hybrid model is possible; “hybrid” entails spending two months at the Center and working remotely for the remainder of the fellowship period if the majority of collection material is already digitized. Please note that the Center currently cannot commit to digitization of any undigitized collection materials during the fellowship period. In rare cases (e.g., war, natural disasters), we may be able to offer remote fellowships to those who cannot come to New York if their materials are available digitally on-line. Fellows must also participate in the Center for Jewish History Fellowship Seminar Program, attend monthly meetings of the fellowship program cohort, present a pre-circulated paper to be discussed at one of those monthly meetings, deliver a minimum of one lecture based on research conducted at CJH, and submit a report upon completion of the fellowship describing their experience as a Center Fellow.

A total of four or five fellowships are available for the 2023-24 year: three Lapidus Fellowships and one or two Dr. Sophie Bookhalter Fellowships. These fellowships carry stipends of $30,000 for a period of 10 months.
