Through an annual series of Publication Grants, SPAM supports the authorship of articles or books by independent scholars, writers, students and professionals in the following subject areas: the artistic contributions of the American modernists, and the history of public and private support for the arts in the United States. Either of these areas may be explored in a successful application.

Publication Grants are intended to encourage non-academics to do original research, and to encourage academics to make their research accessible to the public. SPAM will include the work—published or unpublished—in all SPAM research archives and databases. While applications are welcome from all individuals, applicants with a clear and realistic publication plan will be favored by the selection committee.

Opportunity Highlights

• Awardees will receive a stipend of $7500 distributed over the duration of the grant period in addition to a $2000 travel grant. Texas Global will award up to eight grants to faculty directors for this competition cycle.
• Grant Period: June 1, 2020 – August 31, 2022, spanning student mobility for Academic Year 20/21 and 21/22
• Eligibility: Tenure and non-tenure track faculty, lecturers, and professors of the practice, with a minimum of three years of experience at UT Austin. Faculty need to submit letters of support from their department chair and dean to direct the program for a minimum of two consecutive years.
• Faculty must have an existing international partner; demonstrate their ability to recruit a minimum of 5 students per year; commit to developing a high impact learning model; collaborate with and be responsive to all policies set forth by Texas Global; and direct the program for a minimum of two years, with evidence that the model is sustainable past year three.

Thanks to the generosity of donors and members, the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies is sponsoring up to 16 grants annually, at a maximum of $6,000 each, for the purposes of conducting doctoral dissertation research in Eastern Europe and Eurasia in any aspect of Slavic, East European, and Eurasian studies in any discipline.  These awards may be held concurrently with other partial funding sources, but are intended to support students whose projects have not yet been fully supported. The grant recipient cannot concurrently hold the Cohen-Tucker Dissertation Research Fellowship, Fulbright-Hays DDRA, SSRC IDRF and other similarly fully-funded fellowships.  The grant is for primary dissertation research, not for dissertation write-up.

Thanks to a grant from the US-Russia Foundation, the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies is sponsoring grants with stipends of up to $6,000 for the purposes of conducting graduate research related to the rule of law, governance, economy, business, and civil society in Russia. These grants are intended to provide opportunities for young scholars to make connections with Russian peers and senior specialists, promoting long-term professional relations, and to foster the next generation of Russia experts.

Graduate students in MA programs and professional schools are strongly encouraged to apply. PhD students at the predissertation level may apply for pre-dissertation research. 

The grants may be held concurrently with other partial funding sources. The grant recipient cannot concurrently hold the Cohen-Tucker Dissertation research Fellowship, Fulbright-Hays DDRA, SSRC IDRF, and other similarly fully-funded dissertation research fellowships.

ELIGIBILITY

• Applicant may be a graduate student of any nationality, in any discipline currently enrolled in a PhD program in the United States
• Applicant must have successfully achieved PhD candidacy (ABD status) by the start of the proposed research travel
• Applicant must have language proficiency to conduct the proposed research
• Applicant must be a student member of ASEEES at the time of application
• Applicant must plan to conduct research in one or more of countries within the region covered by ASEEES, including: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyz Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan
• Applicant must plan to start the research travel by no later than January 31 of the subsequent year (Ex: Upon notification of the fellowship in the summer of 2020, the grant recipient must start his/her research travel no later than January 31, 2021)
• Applicant must not hold the Cohen-Tucker Dissertation Research Fellowship, Fulbright-Hays DDRA, SSRC IDRF and other similarly fully-funded fellowships for the same research project

Thanks to the generous support of the US-Russia Foundation, ASEEES is pleased to announce the new Internship Grant Program: www.aseees.org/programs/aseees-internship-grant-program

This program provides MA, PhD, and professional school students and recent graduates with grants that make it possible for them to accept unpaid or underpaid internships in areas directly related to Russian studies. The program promotes the entry of young scholars with considerable Russian studies expertise into sectors outside of traditional academia. These internships must be in the US and should be substantial in duration and responsibilities, lasting two months for summer internships and four months for internships during a semester in the regular academic year. The grant offers $2,000 a month, to be paid directly to the grantee during their internship. ASEEES is also working to secure funding for a similar program to support internships related to non-Russian aspects of Slavic, East European, and Eurasian studies.

The Society for the Anthropology of Europe (SAE) and CES invite eligible graduate students with a focus on European Anthropology to apply for the 2020-21 Anthropology of Europe Pre-Dissertation Fellowship. The SAE is the section of the American Anthropological Association that promotes the anthropological study of European societies and culture, encouraging connections between scholars working in Europe. Each fellowship includes a $5,000 stipend to fund two months’ research in Europe, and travel support for attending and presenting at the International Conference of Europeanists.
