Funding and Graduate Summer Intensive Language Training, Info Sessions (Arizona State University)

From Critical Languages Institute (CLI), ASU Melikian Center:

We wanted especially to emphasize the opportunities for your graduate students (including current undergraduates who look to begin graduate school in fall 2021!) with US citizenship to study the less commonly taught languages of Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union. We will once again be able to offer 24 students Title VIII fellowships of up to $10,000. Students will earn up to 13 credit hours, including a 1-credit online graduate class specifically designed for Title VIII recipients. This course connects students in different language programs, provides comparative perspectives on the post-Soviet world, and builds professional capacities in communicating their expertise to audiences beyond their academic specialty. Languages currently eligible for Title VIII support are Albanian, Armenian, Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian (BCS), Kazakh, Macedonian, Polish, Russian (3rd year or higher), Ukrainian, and Uzbek.

Spring 2021 Russian Study Abroad Program in Latvia (in person)

“Learn Russian in the European Union” is glad to announce that our Russian study abroad programs hosted at Daugavpils University in Latvia will be provided in-person in the Spring semester 2021.

US students enrolled in our programs will be able to enter the European Union and come to Latvia regardless of existing travel restrictions. No visa is required, of course.

Funding: Title VIII Funding for Summer Intensive Language Training, Critical Languages Institute (Arizona State)

ASU’s Critical Language’s Institute will welcome their 8^th cohort of Title VIII Fellows in summer 2021! The Department of State’s Title VIII program funds graduate students with U.S. citizenship to study the less commonly taught languages of Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union. If you are a current or incoming graduate student who would benefit for language training and Title VIII funding, please use the link below.

Their 7- or 8-week programs provide 8 credits, equivalent to a full two-semester sequence during the academic year, and offer online and in-person components providing cultural and geopolitical context, including a 1-credit online graduate class specifically designed for Title VIII recipients. It’s never too soon to start planning! The 2021 Indiana University Language Workshop is now accepting applications for scholarships and fellowships for the intensive study of Russian, Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, Estonian, Hungarian, Kyrgyz, Latvian, Lithuanian, Mongolian, Polish, Ukrainian, Uzbek, and 16 other languages.

FUNDING

Generous Title VIII funding is available for graduate students for online, in-person, and overseas study.

Funding is also available for undergraduates and lifelong learners. All participants pay in-state tuition.

Pitt Project GO (Global Officers) Scholarship for ROTC students

The University of Pittsburgh invites Army, Navy/Marine, and Air Force ROTC students from any US college or university to apply for a Pitt Project GO (Global Officers) scholarship for intensive study of 1st-4th year Russian in Summer 2021. Project GO is an initiative sponsored by the Defense Language and National Security Education Office (DLNSEO) and administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE).

Students who have not yet begun their pursuit of Russian are encouraged to apply for an 8-week beginning-level class, which will cover the equivalent of one academic year’s worth of language training. The beginning-level classes, offered by Pitt’s Summer Language Institute (SLI), are held at the University’s main campus in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh from June 7–July 30, 2021. Pitt Project GO scholarships for Beginning Russian cover:
• Full tuition for 8 University of Pittsburgh credits
• Housing and a living stipend
• Travel between the student’s home city and Pittsburgh
• Textbooks

Info Sessions for IR/Global Studies
Join SRAS for a series of information sessions aimed at students in IR/Global Studies and a range of related fields – security, terrorism, diplomacy, peace, business, and more. In the general sessions we discuss “Building the International Resume” and look at the non-traditional locations offered by SRAS. In thei Special Topic Info Session series, the hosts of the programs abroad will do a short talk on a relevant topic, followed by an opportunity for Q&A and discussion with SRAS alumni. Check it out!
