CLI offers summer intensive Albanian, Armenia, BCS, Macedonian, Polish, Russian, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Uzbek. They are currently transitioning their courses for Summer 2020 to an online format and have extended their deadline to April 24, 2020.

Indiana University has moved its summer language programs, including Russian 1-6, online. They are adding expansion sections to accommodate students whose summer plans have fallen through.
They are working to keep courses FLAS, Title VIII, and Project GO eligible in the online format.
Courses will continue to cover 2 semesters of material over 9 weeks (Russian 1-2) or 8 weeks (Russian 3-6).
The situation is developing faster than they can update their website, so course descriptions, funding details, and other published information may at times be out of date. Please contact languageworkshop@iu.edu for the most recent details.

1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-year Russian classes taught at the SLI provide the equivalent of an academic year’s worth of study. Classes meet on the University of Pittsburgh campus, Monday – Friday from 9am to 3pm. In addition to intensive language classes, students also attend Russian films, lectures on politics and culture, singing classes, and cooking classes.

Nazarbayev University (Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan) is still accepting applications for our Summer School in Russian and Eurasian Studies (SSRES), an 8-week intensive program in Russian or Kazakh languages. We operate on rolling admissions until April 1 and there is no application fee.
Classes follow standardized US curricula and textbooks, which means that students can return seamlessly to language programs at their home institutions.
At NU, students study languages on our modern campus in an environment that minimizes culture shock and maximizes close contact with multilingual local students.
Program dates:
May 23 – July 22 (equivalent to one academic year)
Program fees:
$5000 (for Russian) OR $4000 (for Kazakh)
The fee includes entrance and exit proficiency testing, 8-week language course, dormitory housing in a shared 2-person room, meal plan, cultural program, weekly excursions, local health insurance, airport pick up and drop off, tutoring, books (on loan), gym pass, and official Visa Invitation Letter.

A team supported by the Middlebury College Kathryn Wasserman Davis School of Russian has been working on free open-access digital lessons for heritage learners of Russian. So far, we have completed a full module on Russian spelling. It has 14 lessons that cover the basics of the Russian sound and letter system through explicit explanations and numerous examples and comparisons between Russian and English wherever appropriate. The lessons are interactive and offer opportunities for comprehension checks and practice. These materials are not designed to be a complete course of study but rather to provide an introduction to the most challenging aspects of Russian grammar for heritage speakers who have minimal literacy skills but can speak and understand the language. The goal of the online modules is to enable heritage students to successfully study on their own or alongside traditional students. In order to create a sense of community among heritage learners, we created a dedicated section with language stories from our current and former students, and we welcome more stories from your students as well.
The website is a work in progress, and as of now you will see many placeholders where we plan to have material once it is created. SCRSS Advanced Russian Language Seminar

The Society for Co-operation in Russian & Soviet Studies (SCRSS) would like to draw your attention to their 2020 seminar, organised in collaboration with the St Petersburg Association for International Co-operation, which may be of interest to both teachers and students. The programme includes four 70-minute lectures per day, all in Russian, on Russian linguistics and ‘stranovedenie’ topics. The two speakers are senior lecturers from St Petersburg, invited specially for this seminar. SemesterRus is a free app designed by the GRINT Centre for learning Russian and preparing for the TORFL (Test of Russian as a Foreign Language) at the Elementary, Basic, and First Certification levels. It includes 60 lessons (3 levels, with 20 lessons in each level, using a standard structure and design) and preparatory Russian language exams for each TORFL level using the in-app Dictionary and flashcards. The app is free to use for every learner from beginning to advanced, and does not include ads or in-app purchases.
Assessments for the Grammar, Reading, and Listening sections are carried out automatically within the app. Instructors from the GRINT Centre will individually grade the Writing and Speaking sections. Any final evaluation scores from the Exams section of the app will be available within 48 hours after completing the test.

The 2020 Harvard Ukrainian Summer Institute offers unique courses in Ukrainian studies taught by Harvard and visiting faculty. These courses are intended for graduate students and advanced undergraduates who are concentrating in Ukrainian studies or who wish to broaden their educational experience. Students intending to participate in the HUSI program are asked to submit a HUSI enrollment form. Students must also complete the Harvard Summer School registration process and enroll in the classes they intend to take as part of HUSI.
Tuition for HUSI is commensurate with tuition rates charged for all other Harvard Summer School courses. Tuition for 2020 and the cost of on-campus room and board are posted on the Harvard Summer School website.
Applicants may register for 8 or 4 credits to participate in the program. Applicants seeking the I-20 certificate for the student F-1 US visa must register for 8 credits.

Post-SLI Internship Opportunity for 6-Week Ukrainian Students
SLI is pleased to announce that during the summer of 2020, we are partnering with the Ukrainian Museum-Archives in Cleveland, Ohio to offer a limited number of internships to SLI-Ukrainian students. Students who apply and are accepted to the internship would work at the museum-archives on a project that makes direct use of their newly-acquired knowledge of Ukrainian. Students would also have the opportunity to use the vast resources of the archives to complete a research project related to their academic or career interests. This internship must be taken for academic credit and would commence immediately after the completion of the 6-week beginning Ukrainian course in Pittsburgh. The number of credits taken and the duration of the internship would be negotiated between the applicant, SLI, and the director and curator at the museum-archives.
