Undergraduate and Graduate Research Symposium (NYU Jordan Center)

NYU Jordan Center for the Advanced Study of Russia Masters and Undergraduate Research Symposium

The NYU Jordan Center for the Advanced Study of Russia is excited to announce a call for applications for our annual master’s and undergraduate research symposium! This March, we will host 25 undergraduates and 25 master’s students for two days of presentations, discussion, networking, and exploration. Please note that this year’s event will feature a slightly different structure than the past two iterations, as we will host both MA and Undergraduate participants for two full days.

We invite presentation proposals from undergraduates and master’s students enrolled at universities in the USA and Canada who are pursuing or have pursued research projects, internships, or other opportunities related to Russia, Ukraine, Eastern Europe, and/or Eurasia. Students from any academic field are welcome to apply. Both symposia will feature two different types of panels: 

1. Traditional research panels featuring 10-12 minute talks on executed research projects

2. Casual, discussion-based panels featuring 4-5 minute talks on experiences — internships, study abroad, volunteer opportunities, and more — related to the region

Three Research positions for OPUS-Weave project “Non-Ukrainians in  Revolutionary Ukraine, 1917–1921″

  The National Science Center (NCN) and Austrian Science Fund (FWF) co-funded project “Non Ukrainians in Revolutionary Ukraine, 1917–1921” (NURU) invites prospective candidates to  join this collaborative four-years project with one research team at the Polish Academy of  Sciences and another one at the University of Vienna. The Warsaw team will consist of three  researchers and the Vienna team of four researchers. The following three positions will be filled: 

1. Germans [or] Greeks [or] Moldovans/Romanians in revolutionary Ukraine (PhD position  Vienna) 

2. Levels, degrees, and combinations of cooperation among non-Ukrainian nationalities (PostDoc or PhD position Warsaw)  

3. Belarusians, Polesians, and Tutejszi in times of a nationalising revolution (PostDoc or  PhD position Warsaw)

Summer Language Institute (University of Pittsburgh)

Accepting applications for SLI’s 2025 summer intensive language programs!

The Summer Language Institute (www.sli.pitt.edu) at the University of Pittsburgh is accepting applications to summer 2025 programs in Pittsburgh and abroad, as well as to our trademark 10-week Pitt+abroad programs and language internship programs. SLI is planning a primarily in-person program in 2025, but will offer a limited number of online, synchronous opportunities. We welcome inquiries from students about the availability of their preferred instructional format.

Our priority application due date for best funding consideration is March 1. Please note that the deadline for FLAS applications from Pitt’s REEES and other international studies centers this year is February 17.

Visiting Fellowships (Aleksanteri Institute)

The Aleksanteri Institute, the Finnish Centre for Russian, Eurasian and Eastern European Studies at the University of Helsinki, is pleased to invite applications for its Visiting Fellowships from scholars pursuing research that relates to the Institute’s research profile.

The Visiting Fellowship scheme is intended for scholars who hold a PhD degree and reside outside Finland. Visits can take place between April and December 2025 (excluding July) and are supported with a monthly grant. Fellowships are for two months, with exceptions detailed in the call.

Acad. Job: Tenure Track Position in Political Science (American University, Bulgaria)

The American University in Bulgaria (AUBG) invites applications for an open rank tenure-track position in the Department of Politics and European Studies. The successful candidate will be a broadly trained political scientist with a track record in teaching and research in European politics. Ideally, the candidate would also be able to teach courses in political institutions, the development of the liberal-democratic state, and/or public policy, including introductory-level courses.

Study Abroad: Spring Break in Georgia (SRAS)

Deadline: January 5, 2025

Join SRAS for Spring Break in Georgia. In this 8-day trip you will be immersed in Georgian landscape, food, and culture. We will be based in Tbilisi with day trips to Kakheti (wine country) and Kazbegi (mountains). Enjoy the amazing culinary side of Georgia with the full “Georgian table,” cooking class, and tastings.

The itineraries are based on weather conditions during that time period, which means we stay based (accommodations) in Tbilisi so as to be able to more easily make adjustments to the day trips. We have left plenty of time for independent exploration and we will offer some optional activities and give you recommendations. We’ll keep an eye on any cultural events taking place during your stay and we’ll introduce you to our spring semester students based in Tbilisi and to locals.

Job: International Program Specialist (US Department of Commerce)

CLDP is looking for an energetic, innovative and results oriented individual who will enjoy working in a dynamic, fast-paced and mission driven organization as an International Program Specialist who will support CLDP’s work on programs related to telecommunications and the information and communicaton techonology (ICT) sector under the Digital Connenctivity and Cybersecurity Partnership (DCCP), public procurement, public private partnerships, competition, trade facilitation, sustainability and anti-corruption.

As an International Program Specialist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Serve as a liaison with government officials, regulators, judges, and other high-level diplomatic, community, and business leaders in foreign countries.
  • Assist attorneys with the design and implementation of technical assistance programs.
  • Assist with analyzing the impact of programs and writing reports to the U.S. Department of State and other government agencies identifying CLDP’s activities and achievements.
  • Identify and secure the logistical support needed to execute technical assistance programs through multiple procurement mechanisms.
  • Develop, plan and prepare overall program budgets based on CLDP interagency agreements including tracking budgets as expenditures occur, notifying funding agencies of spending rates, and sending regular bills for CLDP programs.
  • Travel overseas to prepare and assist with implementing trainings, workshops and consultations.
  • Monitor federal regulations and departmental policies to ensure that all CLDP plans and expenditures comply with the relevant requirements.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: You must be fluent in reading, writing and speaking in one of the following languages: Spanish, French, or Russian. This information must be documented in your resume.
