Bard Abroad is currently accepting applications for the Russian in Central Asia Summer Program, hosted by our long-term dual-degree partner, the American University of Central Asia (AUCA). The application deadline is March 15, 2025. This summer, we will be offering the following language courses:

Accepting applications for SLI’s 2025 summer intensive language programs!

The Summer Language Institute (www.sli.pitt.edu) at the University of Pittsburgh is accepting applications to summer 2025 programs in Pittsburgh and abroad, as well as to our trademark 10-week Pitt+abroad programs and language internship programs. SLI is planning a primarily in-person program in 2025, but will offer a limited number of online, synchronous opportunities. We welcome inquiries from students about the availability of their preferred instructional format.

Our priority application due date for best funding consideration is March 1. Please note that the deadline for FLAS applications from Pitt’s REEES and other international studies centers this year is February 17.

Job: International Program Specialist (US Department of Commerce)

CLDP is looking for an energetic, innovative and results oriented individual who will enjoy working in a dynamic, fast-paced and mission driven organization as an International Program Specialist who will support CLDP’s work on programs related to telecommunications and the information and communicaton techonology (ICT) sector under the Digital Connenctivity and Cybersecurity Partnership (DCCP), public procurement, public private partnerships, competition, trade facilitation, sustainability and anti-corruption.

As an International Program Specialist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Serve as a liaison with government officials, regulators, judges, and other high-level diplomatic, community, and business leaders in foreign countries.
  • Assist attorneys with the design and implementation of technical assistance programs.
  • Assist with analyzing the impact of programs and writing reports to the U.S. Department of State and other government agencies identifying CLDP’s activities and achievements.
  • Identify and secure the logistical support needed to execute technical assistance programs through multiple procurement mechanisms.
  • Develop, plan and prepare overall program budgets based on CLDP interagency agreements including tracking budgets as expenditures occur, notifying funding agencies of spending rates, and sending regular bills for CLDP programs.
  • Travel overseas to prepare and assist with implementing trainings, workshops and consultations.
  • Monitor federal regulations and departmental policies to ensure that all CLDP plans and expenditures comply with the relevant requirements.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: You must be fluent in reading, writing and speaking in one of the following languages: Spanish, French, or Russian. This information must be documented in your resume.

Dobro Slovo National Honor Society

Deadlines: February 3, 2025 (inductees, new chapters); March 17, 2025 (inductees)

Dobro Slovo, the National Slavic Honor Society, is pleased to announce our call for new chapters and new inductees for the 2024–2025 academic year. You may apply to open a new chapter and induct new members at the same time. In addition, we are looking for translation assistance in translating some of our materials into other Slavic languages in addition to Russian. 

This year, we will once again have two waves of inducting new members. These dates are noted below. We encourage you to make the first deadline if possible, especially if your institution has an early induction date. If this is not feasible, we will have a second deadline in mid-March. Please note that if you submit after the due date for round one, you will automatically be included in the group for round two.  Keep in mind that the second deadline often overlaps with spring break, so please plan accordingly.

The conference will be held in-person only, with no opportunity to attend virtually.

This conference is planned as a follow-up to the seven successful conferences, which took place at Imperial War Museum London in 2003, 2006, 2009, 2012, 2015 and at Birkbeck, University of London, and The Wiener Holocaust Library in 2018 and 2023. It will continue to build on areas previously investigated and open up new fields of academic enquiry.

Fieldwork Opportunities in Slavic Studies, Folklore and Ethnomusicology

Partnership for Russian, East European and European Folklore invites students and established scholars in documenting Russian and Kazakh traditional culture in Kazakhstan. We are preparing two expeditions for 2025:
Legends of Bayanaul  July 20-31 2025  Collect and compare old Kazakh oral legends with the newer Russian-  and English-language versions which have emerged in recent years. Most of the legends relate to the dramatic rock formations in Bayanaul National Park.

Old Believers of the Bukhtarma Valley July 5-17 2025  Record traditional songs, family histories, material culture, holiday customs, life-cycle rituals, and traditional beliefs of this religious group firmly rooted in the past.

Expeditions are led by Dr. Yelena Minyonok and Dr. Alevtina Tsvetkova. Individual research interests can usually be accommodated.

Expedition languages are Russian, English and Kazakh. Participants pay their own way plus a share of the expedition expenses.  Some financial assistance is available.

It is funded by the U.S. Department of State through its Program for Research and Training on Eastern Europe and the Independent States of the Former Soviet Union (Title VIII).

Part-Time Lecturer in Russian and East European Studies (University of Chicago)

The Humanities Collegiate Division and the Department of Slavic Languages & Literatures at the University of Chicago invites applications for part-time Lecturers during the 2024-25 academic year.
The selected candidate will have part-time teaching opportunities in various courses of the Russian and East European Studies curriculum. Responsibilities include preparing and teaching seminar-style culture courses with a highly interactive discussion element, holding regularly scheduled office hours, and the preparing and grading of assignments and testing materials. Depending on the curricular needs of the department, the successful candidate may teach between one and four courses per academic year.
The terms and conditions of employment for this position are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the University and Service Employees International Union. The per-course salary for academic year 2024-25 will be at least $7,538. This position is not benefits eligible.

The Russian, East European, and Eurasian Center and the Slavic Reference Service at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign are accepting applications for our 2025 Summer Research Laboratory (SRL) program. The SRL is an in-person program that offers comprehensive research support, access to library resources and competitive Research Awards to graduate and post-graduate scholars developing projects on all aspects of Russian, East European, and Eurasian studies. It is funded by the U.S. Department of State through its Program for Research and Training on Eastern Europe and the Independent States of the Former Soviet Union (Title VIII).

The SRL will take place on our campus from June 9 – August 1, 2025. It is open to advanced graduate students, independent scholars, and academic professionals in government and nongovernmental organizations. Graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and early career scholars are especially encouraged to apply.
