Funding: Course Development Stipends (IFLE)

The Center for Russian and East European Studies at the University of Pittsburgh, the Center for Slavic and East European Studies at the Ohio State University, the Ellison Center for Russian, East European, and Central Asian Studies at the University of Washington, the Inner Asian and Uralic National Resource Center at Indiana University, the Institute for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies at the University of California, Berkeley, and the Russian and East European Institute at Indiana University, are running a national competition to solicit applications from faculty and instructors at community colleges and minority-serving institutions to develop new courses that focus on Eastern Europe and/or Eurasia, or to redesign an existing course.

Through funding from the International and Foreign Language Education division of the federal Department of Education, these six Title VI National Resource Centers will give out subawards from $1,000-$3,000. Recipients can use the subaward funds for research related travel, curriculum and research purchases, and salary for research or curriculum design time. The goal of the program is to create more courses with 25% or more content that relates to Eastern Europe/Eurasia, broadening access to area studies coursework at community college and minority-serving institutions.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach intensive Russian in summer 2018. This is a part-time appointment. The successful candidates will teach Elementary or Intermediate Russian 4 hours a day, five days a week, for eight weeks and will contribute to cultural programming.

What is Crossroads Eurasia?

Academic Job: Wayne Vucinich Fellowship (Stanford)

The Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies (CREEES) at Stanford University invites applications for the Wayne Vucinich Fellowship.

This is a twelve-week residential fellowship to be offered from April-June 2018. The fellowship is open to scholars in any discipline whose research focuses on historical or contemporary topics in Russia, East Europe, the Caucasus, or Central Asia.  Scholars who have received the PhD within the past five years are eligible to apply. (A PhD in hand is required at the time the residency begins.) Preference will be given to scholars who are residents of countries that fall under the direct purview of the Center: Russia, East Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia.

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH SCHOLAR PROGRAM 2018-2019 FELLOWSHIP COMPETITION

The Harriman Institute invites applications for 2 two-year postdoctoral research scholar positions, extending over 2018-19 and 2019-20. Postdoctoral research scholars are expected to concentrate on their own research and writing; to teach a course of their own design in the spring semester of each of the two years; to give a public seminar/lecture on their research; and to be active participants in the Institute’s scholarly community and events. The Institute provides desk space for all postdoctoral research scholars. The Institute also provides funds to sponsor workshops, conferences, and special events planned by fellows around their particular interests.
