Grad. Program: MA and PhD in Russian and Slavic Studies (NYU)

Deadline: April 15, 2022

The Department of Russian and Slavic Studies at New York University welcomes applicants to two graduate programs: the terminal MA and the Interdisciplinary Specialization in Russian, a PhD program based either in the Department of History or the Department of Comparative Literature at NYU.

MA study at NYU is generously supported by the Stephen Cohen Fellowship, which offers tuition and stipend. In addition to pursuing courses of study focused exclusively in Russian and Slavic Studies, we offer a joint MA  with NYU’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute and a Russian Studies MA with a Concentration in International Relations. Graduate study in the Department of Russian and Slavic Studies is further enriched through our close ties with NYU’s Jordan Center for the Advanced Study of Russia, which features dynamic programming in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies as well as fellowship and work-study opportunities.

Like other PhD programs at NYU, the ISR is funded through the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences’ Henry M. MacCracken program. The deadline for ISR applications is December 20, 2021 (Comparative Literature) or December 15, 2021 (History). For ISR application requirements, please see this page for applications based in Comparative Literature, or this page for applications based in History.

Applicants interested in the Joint M.A. with Journalism should submit materials by January 4, 2022 for admission in Fall 2022. To be considered for the Cohen Fellowship, applicants should submit materials by February 15, 2022. The deadline for Fall 2022 admission without fellowship consideration is April 15, 2022. For application requirements and further information about the MA, please see this page.
