IGNITE Fellows are changing the face of leadership in communities across America.

Every year IGNITE recruits a cohort of diverse and passionate women in communities across America and provides them with resources, training, and networks to flex their political power and mobilize women on their campuses and in their communities to become civically engaged. Fellows serve as ambassadors for IGNITE’s mission and vision and play a valuable role in our efforts to spread a national message that it is time for young women to step into political power.

Who are we looking for?

IGNITE is looking for Fellows from across the ideological spectrum who are deeply motivated, take initiative, have organizing experience on college campuses and in their communities and have a proven track record of building new initiatives and sustained programming. We are specifically looking for young women who have a history of serving their communities through volunteer activities, internships, public office, or other civic engagement activities. Strong candidates will demonstrate experience in organizing and coalition building, civic engagement and political leadership with a deep commitment to advancing equal rights for women.

This is a call for participants for a roundtable on new voices in contemporary Russian theater and drama goes out to scholars who under normal circumstances would be planning a trip to Toronto in January 2021 to participate in the MLA convention or are excited enough by this call to start planning such a trip. If you’re doing research on theater and drama in the 21st century and would like to share your observations about new, exciting, unexpected trends that have developed in performance and dramatic writing in the past two decades, drop a brief description of what you’d like to share during the roundtable and a short bio at tatiana.klepikova@utoronto.ca by March 25, 2020.

Job: Resident Director in Moscow

American Cultural Exchange Service (ACES) is seeking a qualified Resident Director (RD) to work on site with a group of up to 15 US high school students for an approximately six-week (from the end of June to mid-August) program in Moscow, Russia through the National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) program. In Russia, students will engage in language learning in both formal (language courses) and informal settings (host family living). The RD is required to attend a two-day pre-program training in Bellevue, WA (late May to early June), attend a student orientation in Washington D.C., represent ACES for the duration of the program in Moscow, and submit a final report at the end of the program.

Russian Studies Postdoctoral Fellowship at Indiana University-Bloomington

The Russian Studies Workshop (RSW) at Indiana University’s Russian and East European Institute (REEI) and Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies (HLS) invites applications for a one-year postdoctoral fellowship beginning August 1, 2020. Applicants should be scholars conducting research on Russia while contributing to interdisciplinary and international debates. Special consideration will be given to scholars who have conducted extensive research and have strong Russian language skills. The fellowship is $50,000/year and includes benefits.

Requirements

The postdoctoral fellow will teach one course per year; importantly, after teaching this course, the finished syllabus and auxiliary materials (handouts, course packets, etc.) will be shared with HLS at the end of the fellowship. The fellow is expected to maintain a vigorous research program during the fellowship, and actively participate in the RSW, including leading a monthly writing group for Russian Studies PhD students. Fellows are required to be in residence in Bloomington, Indiana.

CFP: Journal for Distinguished Language Studies

The Journal for Distinguished Language Studies (JDLS), founded by the Coalition of Distinguished Language Centers under the direction of Dr. Betty Lou Leaver and Boris Shekhtman in 2002, has transitioned to a new publisher, MSI Press LLC.

Our plan is to publish a bridge issue covering the years 2011-2020, when the journal was in hiatus as a result of the previous publisher experiencing difficulty in funding publication of the journal. Following the bridge issue, the JDLS will move to regular annual publication.

JDLS is a refereed volume and the only journal to focus exclusively on the highest levels of language achievement: that is, native-like or near-native. This level is labeled “distinguished” by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) and “Level 4/advanced professional proficiency” by the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR). Descriptions can be found at the ACTFL and ILR websites.

NEW Call for Applications: ASEEES Summer Dissertation Writing Grants

ASEEES is delighted to announce the new Summer Dissertation Writing Grant program. We are able to offer a limited number of grants, with a maximum stipend of $6000, for graduate students at US universities for the purposes of summer dissertation writing on any aspect of Slavic, East European, and Eurasian studies in any discipline. The writing grant program is directed at PhD students at US universities who do not qualify for the ASEEES Dissertation Research Grant because they do not intend to conduct research in the region.
