What is Crossroads Eurasia? 
Crossroads Eurasia is about living Russia, not just studying it. Students often don’t realize that summer language courses are only one way to immerse themselves in the Russian language and culture. Founded in 2010, Crossroads Eurasia aims to get more students to discover Russia directly, via a work experience — teaching English, doing translation, or working as a camp counselors.

Academic Job: Wayne Vucinich Fellowship (Stanford)

The Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies (CREEES) at Stanford University invites applications for the Wayne Vucinich Fellowship.

This is a twelve-week residential fellowship to be offered from April-June 2018. The fellowship is open to scholars in any discipline whose research focuses on historical or contemporary topics in Russia, East Europe, the Caucasus, or Central Asia.  Scholars who have received the PhD within the past five years are eligible to apply. (A PhD in hand is required at the time the residency begins.) Preference will be given to scholars who are residents of countries that fall under the direct purview of the Center: Russia, East Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia.

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH SCHOLAR PROGRAM 2018-2019 FELLOWSHIP COMPETITION

The Harriman Institute invites applications for 2 two-year postdoctoral research scholar positions, extending over 2018-19 and 2019-20. Postdoctoral research scholars are expected to concentrate on their own research and writing; to teach a course of their own design in the spring semester of each of the two years; to give a public seminar/lecture on their research; and to be active participants in the Institute’s scholarly community and events. The Institute provides desk space for all postdoctoral research scholars. The Institute also provides funds to sponsor workshops, conferences, and special events planned by fellows around their particular interests.

Study Abroad: Alternative Spring Break (American Home)

The first application deadline for the American Home’s March 2018 Alternative Spring Break Program in Vladimir, Russia, is November 15 (www.serendipity-russia.com/edex.html).

The program includes community service, homestays, excursions to UNESCO World Heritage Sites, interaction with Russian university students who are studying English, and basic Russian lessons.

Participants do not have to speak Russian to join the program.

Language Training: Russian Flagship Program (PSU)

The Russian Flagship Program at Portland State University (PSU) invites inquiries from high school juniors and seniors, as well as community college students, who are interested in developing professional level proficiency in Russian, while they complete the undergraduate major of their choice.  Supported by The Language Flagship, an initiative of the National Security Education Program, PSU’s Russian Flagship Program prepares students for exciting careers using foreign language skills in a globalized world.

An urban university, located in Portland, Oregon, PSU hosts one of only four federally-funded Flagship programs for Russian in the United States.  Flagship students study in an innovative language program that helps them develop fluency in Russian through small classes taught in the target language, one-on-one conversation practice, and immersive study abroad programs, including a yearlong capstone program in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

PSU is committed to keeping undergraduate education affordable, and students can qualify for grants and scholarships, such as the Out-of-State Opportunity scholarships for non-residents. Prospective students from Western states may qualify for reduced tuition through the Western Undergraduate Exchange(WUE).
